Tell me how this plan sounds. For out Grandview High School DSM project (see the build page for more info), we've got a Holset hy35, and have been told that this turbo (that we inherited) can be good for 30psi+ of boost. We also inherited a Tial F38 wastegate. It ha a large blue, 14.5psi, spring in it now. Since we've never ran this project, I felt like it'd be best to run under 10psi the first time we ever get it started. Get some base tuning figured out. And then start to increase boost. If we bought a red (5.8) or green (7.2) small spring, we could run that one and then double up later on for a 20-22psi spring pressure. Does that sound like a good plan?

Also, we've only got a 1g BOV on the car right now. Will that hold? I haven't researched that far yet... I'm assuming no.

Don't forget that you can use a boost controller to bring your boost up higher without having to mess with changing the spring(s). But also remember that a boost controller can really only effectively double the spring pressure before you need to change the spring(s). So, if you also had a boost controller you could start with the 7.2 psi spring and use the boost controller to get you to your starting point of 10psi. Then when you were ready to go past 10psi you could add the other 5.8 psi spring to be at 13psi. Then you can continue to tune and add boost with the boost controller all the way up to 25-26psi while using just those two springs. If you get ready to go past that you WILL have to add another/different spring, but you get the idea. The boost controller will enable you to get a lot more range in boost with only a few springs. Just remember that you can NEVER go lower than whatever your spring pressure is. A boost controller cannot lower the boost below spring pressure. It can only raise it and it can only effectively double the spring pressure. Make sense? :)

The 1g BOV will hold to 30psi for sure. You just have to crush it. Put it in a vice and squeeze the top part down a little bit to increase the spring tension inside. Just so you understand, you want to crush the top where the nipple is (it kinda looks like a top hat) down a bit. You will see it flex down and compress in that area that's like the "brim of the top hat". Crush it down a good bit and give it a try. :thumb:
