Wasted wastegate

Hey everyone, hope this hasn't been gone over a million times but I didn't find anything during my searches. I have a first gen tsi and the wastegate actuator appears to be blown out. If I pressurize the line going in it just shoots air out by the actuator rod but nothing moves (about 10 psi). Do I need a replacement or is this a repairable item? My car has lost a lot of power lately and I have been chasing the problem for a long time. Everytime I get one thing fixed another seems to pop up. Which way does the actuator rod need to be moving for the wastegate to be closed? Can the wastegate itself get damaged and if so how do I check it? I know this is long but I appreciate any and all help...Don't beat me up too bad for being a dumbass since this is my first post after all.

sounds like the actuator itself is blown.....you'll need a new one.

when the rod moves forward (out) the flapper should open, and when it relaxes the flapper should stay closed.

thanks Greeneclipse that's just what I was figuring...guess its time for me to start shopping for an actuator.
