Hey, I'm thinking that until I get the money to get rims and tires, I might just paint the factory rims. I want it to look original, but I'd like to see what some of you have done. Did the paint on them last?

That would work, but insted of wasting your time telling somebody to search... You could search for them? OMG Just kidding, but what does your user name mean anyways?

Check out my gallery. I painted my rims awhile back with Duplicolor gunmetal paint. It is meant for rims and it has held up perfect so far. I don't expect anything happening to it anytime soon either. :thumb:

I think that looks pretty cool. I will probably do something like that. My Talon is silver, so I think that would look pretty neat. I wanted to do the gunmetal thing, but on a silver car I don't think it would work.

did you gyus clearcoat the rims after painting? am planning to paint my arospeeds in gold with gold spray paint, how many coats of clear do I need?

I used 2 coats of clear and 3 coats of paint.
But make sure to keep your coats THIN and not have them "too thick".

did this about 6 months ago
still no damage.. paint is holding up better then i expected.

i think in order to polish the lip you just use some polishing paste and and rub the hell out of the rim with the polish, like mothers mag polish maybe?

Sandpaper

One thing i did which nobody else mentioned. I have acess to an industrial oven at work. I baked each wheel at 525deg.F for 15 minutes. Then, i coated them with the clear and baked the clear at 400 deg.F for 10 minutes.

I finished mine yesterday, Removed all paint then 2 coats gloss black ceramic engine paint and 2 coats of ceramic clear coat. I wish I wouldn't have cleared the lip, they were hella shiny before and the clear coat gave them a metallic grey shiny look.

Edit: 2g wheels on a 1g ;) I painted the calipers with that Dupli-color kit (red) and it came out looking hot, you cant see them in my pic, cuz my camera sucks but overall the new rim/caliper look is HOT!!!
