c,
so far this is what I'm working with
new shocks/springs
energy suspension master bushing kit
I'm guessing tie rod ends/ball joints?
control arms maybe?

basically my car rides like crap and I want it to ride like it's brand new so what parts actually wear and need to be replaced? I'm planning on just buying everything and then taking a weekend to do it all in after I've moved.

would appreciate links to vendors that sell these items. if any vendors wanna chime in I would love a package deal considering how much stuff I'm planning on buying here LOL

Well it all depends on how crazy you want to go with it...you could be spending a lot to replace EVERYTHING. If you're getting the energy suspension bushing kit that includes everything for the front and rear control arms, the sway bar bushings, subframe bushings, rear trackbar, and tie rod end boots. So you dont really need to replace the control arms unless theyre really rusted or something. I would do new tie rod ends though. You could replace the knuckles and upper control arms as well.

Front: Control arms (lateral/curved), upper balljoints, tie rods, rotors/brakes, struts/springs, strut mounts, full prothane bushing kit, ingals upper balljoints (if lowered), RM sway bar, adjustable end links, upper strut bar.

Rear: Prothane bushing kit, spacer washers (if lowered), Control arms, rotors/brake/e-brake shoes, strut/springs, mounts, RM sway bar, upper strut bar, lower tie bar (not really needed), being a 1G you'll probably want a rear toe delete too.

If you did that you'd have everything possible but a front RRE tie bar. Thats a bitchin setup.

I have all of the above including a C-pillar bar. It connects where the rear seat belt hangers go, and before an after werent really a difference until I drove through a storm, It's really nice to have.

Very helpful guys, I've been looking for a 1g prothane kit but I haven't been able to find one. anyone know if they exist and who carries them?

Prothane doesn't make a suspension bushings kit for 1Gs, it's just for 2Gs. Use the Energy Suspension kit.

as far as bushings go, you'll need all that energy suspension offers plus the rear subframe/mustache bushings from tunersnation.com

Having already done this on my 1g, I can give you a run through... I tried to minimize down time, so what I did was find a donor car in the wrecking yard that has good suspension components and bought/pulled it all (front lower control arms, rear trailing arms, rear upper & lower control arms). I got the everything listed above for ~$80 from a local PnP. IMO, it's waaay easier to work on parts off of the car, rather than pull them, mess with swapping the old with the new stuff, then put it all back together (those damn steel sleeves can be a PITA).

Once pulled, I worked on the spare set of parts by pressing out all of the old rubber bushings & steel sleeves (be prepared to cuss A LOT). A bearing press works wonders for these tasks (props to a local DSMer, "TurboDSM90" for the use of his press :thumb:).

Sources I used:

Rockauto.com (ball joints, inner & outer tie-rod ends... Moog makes some pretty beefy stuff and are almost identical to OEM)

Suspension.com (complete Energy Suspension kit for the 1g AWD)

Info:

Polyurethane bushing install

Tie Rod Install

Tools:

1/2" cordless impact

32mm socket (rear axle cups) -So you won't have to pay for them along with the trailing arms

1/2" drive sockets & breaker bar -can't fit the impact on everything

Hope this helps
