i was looking at my engine today and kinda got grossed out by how crappy it looks. i want to clean it up some. i mean like getting rid of the cruise control, getting rid of stuff i dont need like wires, harnesses power steering, ac, i want it to look clean as i can get it. does n e body know how to get rid of the cruise control? thats the main thing i want gone cause i never ever use cruise. i cant figure out how the cables are suppose to go together. n e help would be appreciated.

On the throttle cable you can buy it for a car without cruise. I know for sure MachV sells them. On the power steering I would advise you not to do this because its a big pain in the ass without it. A quick way to tell if you wouldnt mind would be go down the road to a light when its green just before you take the turn turn the ignition off and see how fun it is to turn. Make sure you dont do this in traffic though ;)

do they sell like an adapter or something like that. if it is that bad without power steering, i think im going to keep it. n e other ideas on making it look nice and cleaned up a little?

Actually, I have had the power steering off of my car for some time, and I like it better than w/ ps.

It is a little more trouble from a stop like pulling out of parking spaces and stuff, but its not unbearable. and you also get better feedback through the steering without the power assist as a buffer to road inconsistencys. this is a benifit if you do a lot of aggressive backroad driving or auto-xing...like i do :thumb:

like he said throttle cable from a car with no cruise..
some company makes a bracket to mount the alternator where the A/C is now.
I HATE not having PS on a car this heavy BUT I think you can get a Steering rack from a older DSM without PS and that will make turning slightly better.
re-locate the battery to the rear
get rid of all the emmisions crap
relocate the coolant overflow bottle

it would make a decently clean engine compartment

something like this one!

that is what im talking about. that looks nice as hell. nice setup too if i might add. i am actually thinking about going with the coil on plug setup for sbr. what is the kit that machv sells. i really want to get rid of the cruise control.

cleaning up the engine bay in a few easy steps.

1.)relocate battery to trunk
2.)get rid of cruise by buying non cruise thottle cable
3.)remove all emissions bs and then remove all sensors related from firewall
4.)unplug injectorsand route the wires UNDER the fuel rail
5.)paint things black: fuel rail, brackets, lines, etc...

the next things are for the brave.
6.)Paint engine compartment black(hides all engine components painted black.)
7.)Extend main harness bringing fuse box into the car and all harness wires under the fenders.
8.)remove anything not needed(ac removal cleans up the bay nicely)
9.)coil on plug also cleans up the bay nicely

and the single biggest way to clean the engine bay is to actually CLEAN the engine bay use simple green and foamy engine bright with a soft brush, then armor all everything that could use it.

that is damn nice engine shot. its clean as hell. i am going to do just that. im going to buy the non cruise cable, clean it with simple green, and get rid of the ac. im going to paint some of it too. thanx for all the info guys

Mine looks really clean, too. I even leave it this way when I park it on the street, so others can appreciate it. :thumb:

What you doing posting my car myblack98gst!! :p

I've removed P/s from my AWD (pictured above). I didn't have p/s on my old mirage turbo, but it had a closer ratio manual rack in it. If you are going to eliminate p/s, please don't do what I did and just plug the holes.. do it the right way and swap over the manual rack and get an alignment. My car is ok to drive for my purpose, but if it was anything near a daily driver, it would be miserable.

Yeah removing emissions and relocating your battery will help out a lot. I am going to remove my emissions tommorow. Ive been told just to take out the canister and all the vaccum hoses, and plug the 3 holes on the throttle body (2 holes on a 1g). Is this correct?

thats cool but i have a california model laser 1990 with the egr harness or some crap like that. can i still do it the same way as a federal model? i really want to get rid of all that vacuum crap and i dont see why not. let me know asap cause im ready to get it done.thanx for the website, good information page and guide line for me.

I got a manual rack out of a 1.8L car. It isn't that bad. It only cost like 120 bucks. I do have a question, when you get rid of the A/C can you get rid of the fuse box that is located on the drivers side near the windshield. All I see is A/C related fuses in it?

if it wernt for the wireing i would think it would be possiable. i was looking at my engine bay today and thinking how i could make it look like that HONDUH engine bay. all ya would have to do is lengthen and remove some uneeded wires and it could look good..

hmm on the ideas.

heres my engine bay if you want some ideas..nothing special..no a/c, p/s (manual rack), no emissions, no cruise, ect...

ok heres what im thinking. im going to custom make brake lines. and a clutch line. to get them under the engine and chassis instead of on top. of the wheel wells and get rid of the rubber line all together?? any one have a issue with that? then slowly loom by loom reroute the wires inside the wheel wheel wells to clean those up.. pretty much hide any wire i can.

mabey i can make a stainless steel powersteering line so that i can get rid of that big honkey pos.

the wiper fluid has to go.

what would be really cool is to cut out a flat peice of alumium and put it aginst the firewall so it would mildly decrese space there but it would be a good place to hide wires.

just my .02

i may do it someday

You want hard lines for brakes if you care about brakeing performance.
