If you're wanting to just do bolt ons on a non turbo find a intake manifold with some nice long runners it'll compliment nicely with cams cai and exhaust

The factory pistons have a 9.6:1 CR.

Thanks Paul. Thats what I was looking for. I thought the N/T was a little higher in compression, but whatever. You still answered my question. Again, I wasn't saying that turbo isn't a possibility, but thinking about those factory rings under boost hurts my heart.

And I agree with the mature adults in this thread. It quickly turned to a bash thread for no reason. If you dont have anything helpful to post, dont post.

Obviously the 420a owners dont care what you 4g guys have to say. Chrysler engine or Mitsu block - both cars were made in Illinois for all I care. It was made in America by Americans-----good enough for me.

All maintenance first then Cold Air Intake, Headers, Catback Exhaust, Jeep throttle body mod but don't expect huge gains. But you will definitely notice better throttle response and a change in power band. Upgrading the engine internals would be your next step up.

could you give more info on the jeep tb size and model it came in

I would say if you truely want to turbo it down the road just start saving for that right now. Most of your basic bolt on power adders for the 420a will not be compatible with a turbo setup. Why spend the money for a few measly ponies right now when you can save that money and be that much closer to your goal of having a turbo?

Personally the only thing I would do right now is a catback since that will still work when you decide to turbo your car.

There is a company which I can't think of right off of the top of my head, that makes individual throttle bodies for the 420a. there are a few videos on youtube I believe that shows a few 420a neons with them installed. nice power gains. sounds sick as hell too. research it.

I'd say,Save up for the turbo. If you buy all the add ons,You will allways be thinking about the turbo!Prioraties first ,then get a turbo, make sure you manage your A/F properly.Spend as much as you can afford on Fuel managment.Break in your ebay turbo properly! And have fun!Thats what its all about!

Hmm, 60mm throttle you could use for either. UDP you could use for either, MS you could use for either, intake manifold you could use for either, cam gears (if you want) you can use for either, any ignition adder you can use for either (say Screamin Demon coil or ms dis 2 etc).

Basically a header and a CAI you could not use for either

MB, your car is amazing! and OP also consider E85 with your build. Depend on where you are you can get E85 at the pump. This will allow you to run even higher compression on the street and added benefit of cooler burn. This will be one sick combo and also invest on good tuning software. Otherwise your achievement will gone to waste with no tuning software.

MB, do you have any current vids on your 13.188 1/4 pass?

Man you n/t guys and pushing your own personal agendas. Someone needs to be honest with this guy. He can buy every bolt on he can find and he might make 160hp.

Even turbo he might make 200hp, maybe.

The way i see it,... turbo guys wanna got bigger with turbos and NA guys wanna be fast NA. We all think alike in are preferences.

OP, go for it bro.

The problem with the bold section is, there is no such thing as a fast n/a dsm with either motor. People need to be objective here and be honest with this guy.

Personally (coming from my old car a stock n/a 3000gt). Start with a good exhaust and intake, preferably a cold air intake. This will make your engine breathe a little better, more efficiently and maybe gains some mpg. ( my 3000gt went from 23 highway to 25 with those mods). These will squeeze some more horses out and also can be used with a turbo when you buy then so no part goes unused. IMO just save. Save for a turbo and do that first then base your engine off the turbo. The results will be better and higher plus you don't sound any extra money on parts that won't be compatible with a turbo

I don't get what you are saying. So if a guy doing 15.0sec in 1/4, dosen't he wanna do lower times next time around? I am not gonna go out there and try to convinced this guy to blow all his money on this NA car. I want this guy "OP" to enjoy his car with what he can afford. I am not trying to change people's opinions by all means. Not every one have a turbo car, you gotta work with what you got and have fun with it. I can tell you this 90% people on this site will never see 9 second quarter miles with their cars.

By my definition of fast, MB's car (bullettdsm) dsm is fast to me, and for what he can afford.

I am not trying to start another debate of why everyone needs to go turbo. Im just gonna leave it up to OP.

That maybe but the stock times for a 2g n/t are high 16's, low 17's. And just for example a stock 97 buick regal runs a 15 flat.

$1000 in bolt ons wont even crack a 15.9. A couple thousand for a turbo kit might get you low 15's. Or... take that couple grand and buy a gsx 1g or 2g and with a $15 mbc your low 14's.

You guys need to stop giving these people false hope.

These cars lose to a 4 door buick regal by 20 cars lengths in the 1/4.

Not giving anybody false hope, i want people to enjoy what they have. weather they run fast or slow times and long as they enjoy their car. I believe thats what this community should be all about. I don't want people to be let down and feel ashamed with what they have. I want to be respect full of what they have and not bullied them to sell their cars. I feel sorry for OP for posting this up. I know where this threat is going.

Thats not what im saying at all. I never try to get anyone to sell their car. The n/t is a great dd. Looks good, gets good gas mileage. Endless cosmetic mods available. All makes for a great car to drive and enjoy.

A perfect example why our 420A cars are going down in value!!!:argue:another turbo owner that has all the #'s figured out for us:thumb:

From what I read he is being told that he can buy various bolt-ons that will not give him a lot of horsepower, but make his car a bit more fun to drive. I see no dishonesty there. Stop reading what you want to see and read what is written.

Even turbo he might make 200hp, maybe.
Many of us that have gone turbo have done well over those numbers on a consistant and reliable basis. What you are saying holds no water to the emperical evidence out there.

there is no such thing as a fast n/a dsm with either motor.
Fast is a relative thing. Its about how much faster you want to make your own platform. I'm thinking a 13 second NA Eclipse would be considered fast by those measures.

People need to be objective here and be honest with this guy
Again, people are being "honest" with the OP

All of this is totally untrue. Hell, you can do 15's without even using Megasquirt. Todd has been running low 15's for years on the stock ECU. Hop on 2gnt for proof. Again, nobody is giving any false hopes. And I've yet to lose to a 4 door buick; much less by twenty lengths.

You are dangerously close to negative rep for multiple misinformation

These threads are so annoying.
I couldn't agree more Josh.

Enough already folks. The OP was asking about what he could do to make his daily faster before he turbo's it. He has already acknowledged that he knows he won't get much more power and has already said that he is looking into plans to turbo it. And somehow it turns into a 420a's aren't real dsm's thread and a 420a can never be fast thread.

I know this information is out there, so if you don't like the fact that someone is asking the question just stay out of the thread. I don't believe that anybody is twisting anybody's arms to read a thread with a subject that they don't care to read about.

How about you give us a true estimate for how much you have invested in your car? And i can disprove everything you just said with this.

DSM 1/4 Mile Times - 420a

and

DSM Dyno Challenge - 420a

From what I read he is being told that he can buy various bolt-ons that will not give him a lot of horsepower, but make his car a bit more fun to drive. I see no dishonesty there. Stop reading what you want to see and read what is written.

I wouldn't call going from 140 to 160 "a but more". All those bolt ons are going to cost you about $1,000. So where am reading what i want? Its mostly for the noise, and thats being honest.

Many of us that have gone turbo have done well over those numbers on a consistant and reliable basis. What you are saying holds no water to the emperical evidence out there.

Ok, so 20 people ever have broke the 200hp mark, with only like 10 breaking 300hp. Very low odds there do you think. And if you re-read my comment, i said "maybe", which is very true. The average n/t owner turboing his car "might" make 200. Which is exactly true. Most likely not.

I know you've devoted your life to making a fast n/a dsm. But you need to be objective here. I knew your opinion would be very bias.

And somehow it turns into a 420a's aren't real dsm's thread and a 420a can never be fast thread.

Only 3 people EVER have ran faster then a 13.1 in a 420a car, turbo or not. How do you explain that? That facts speak man. A 13.1 is not impressive by any means. I dont mean your car, just in general. Most new stock sports car run that fast or faster straight from the factory. Passing emissions and carrying a warranty LOL.

The "being different" thing is overrated and done to death. Ive built n/a cavaliers and turbo eco cavaliers. I've been there man and done that.

I honestly wish someone would have knocked some sense into me before i wasted all that time and money in a lame duck platform.

so only a few people have answered my questions, i am going turbo, my cousins talon went from a 96 talon nt to 573 bhp talon....5000 dollar invesrmant, i know i can push my dsm to its limits without blowing my motor or money, im tired of all the wrx sti's, evos, srt's thinking they can push dsms around, ive seen plenty of dsms demolish them, i dont wanna start an arrgument over some bull, this is a website for dsm enthusiast we should get along we are no diffrent, yes our motors are slightly diffrent but there is no reason we cant help each other make our cars good, we enjoy our cars and that what matters, i understand this is off subject and i apologize to the moderaters but this is not what i wanted.

91stocker, it's clear you just want to be disruptive and argumentative, so please stop posting in the 420A tech sections.

For other 4G63 owners reading this thread, please read this one instead:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420...-read-before-you-post-420a-forums-warned.html

Too many threads here have veered far off-topic in the past few days. I've asked you guys politely to stay on-topic, but my request has gone unheeded. I'm going to start dispensing warnings/infractions with less discretion for these sorts of rule violations from now on.
