you could get some cams, do some port work. and a cold air intake. Good Luck.

All maintenance first then Cold Air Intake, Headers, Catback Exhaust, Jeep throttle body mod but don't expect huge gains. But you will definitely notice better throttle response and a change in power band. Upgrading the engine internals would be your next step up.

is that all i can do? some one told me to get new manifold or get a profestional to bore them out, and a bigger throtle body but wouldnt that be more turbo work?

can anyone help me with links to all these things? cheap would be nice but if not i cant wait

Not much you can do to a non turbo but the things listed. New exhaust from the mani back may help a bit and free up a couple hp but don't expect much.

right on well ill see were i can go from here, i got a kid and a pretty crappy job so im doing what i can on a low budget, thats why i cant turbo it unless i find a super cheap turbo, chances are its gonna suck if its cheap so yeah

A cheap turbo off ebay will work fine.I started off my car with one,and got lucky.I was gonna upgrade later, but it still works fine after two years daily driving. Its all the tuning components that are gonna cost you!IF you go with the ebay turbo, check it out real good before bolting on.If its not right you can return it.And make sure you prime it real good before you use it.

If you dont want to go turbo but want some power when you need it you could always go nitrous route its there only when you want to use it.

my little squirt is my main priority, but i have some left over money even once and awhile and wanted to work my car up, ill look into getting ebay turbo

If it were me and i would just keep the 420a stock and use it as a dd. Than pick up a cheap 1g fwd turbo that needs some work for like 500 dollars.

i was thinking about something like that, but i love the 2g talons, my 98 looks great, granted wanna find my body kit some stock parts because i got my talon as a junker that didnt work, but i think it runs better than ever now, now i wanna make it better. All in all i wanna make my stock 98 esi into a stock body esi with aftermarket turbo so it can be as mean as it looks, but since im not gonna turbo it yet i atleast want it to be the meanest esi in sioux falls

Def boost it if you want more power! But do it right!Dont take no shit from the 4g63 guys! This site is turning into a 420A hater site.:toobad:really is ashame

In regards to OP, My experience has pointed towards a rebuild with better internals. You can boost it all day long, but when the lower end fries, understand that it's because the stock internals of the 420a weren't designed to carry boost. (Not saying it won't handle it for a little while) But our engines run a 10:1 compression ratio whereas the 4g63 runs at like 8.5/9.0:1. (Can someone verify please?) The higher compression in our engines will most likely ruin the stock rings with boost faster than you want.

i wanna add more HP to my talon but dont wanna go turbo yet, wanted to but imma get a 2nd care before i make my talon my project car

Sooooooo, OP, as noted you won't get a lot of power out of add-ons with the 420a (you will be fighting the ECU all along). If you are so inclined, you may want to get Megasquirt (that would run you around $500). You wouldn't be fighting the ECU, and any bolt-ons/changes you may install would be amplified vs the stock ECU (plus you could use MS with the turbo set-up).

I was able to take my daily into the 13's (as a daily), but that required a bit more cash and more changes than just bolt-ons. If you are so inclined, you can search out a UDP with an exhaust, a 60mm throttle body with a port matched and polished intake mani (stock is fine). That will allow you to scoot around a little bit a have some fun without changing reliability.

But again, the ECU is your biggest obstacle.

I wouldn't do this, reason being is turbos are better on low compression motors. So if you are planning on it eventually and want power now you'd be taking a step back either way you look at it, since NT motors need higher compression to make power.

If you want power is do nitrous for track use, other than that its a lot of money down the drain. Porting is a waste as well if you want to go turbo. NT motors are in vacuum so they need large ports to move more air, where as with turbo large ports are sometimes a bad thing because in boost you want port velocity.

I wish I could give you better news than this. You could always du k around with a ram air system. I hear they can make around 2 psi at 130ish, which is sick for basically cutting a whole in your hood and running a filter to catch the air. Realistically you'd probably get at best near 0 psi, which would still be a gain. I've thought about this idea for a few NT cars just to see what happens. This would be a lot of work to be removed when you go turbo as well but, I'd personally shake your hand if you did it.

I don't know how the hell this discussion devolved into an argument about what constitutes a DSM and what doesn't, but let's try to keep it on topic from now on, okay?
