just looking for some opinions from 3rd parties.

i'm looking into buying DSMLInk and there is a guy in my area selling the whole set-up...
ECU with chip...disc...and cable for laptop....its a V2....and he said he would be willing to help me install and do like a baseline to with/for me to get the car running properly.

my questions is does $400 seem like a decent price for V2 DSMLINk with whats listed above?

i thought it was...but i was kind of hesitant about it only because its a V2....and the new V3's r out...and are only about $150 more than what he's asking

It is, but you get a ECU with that deal! A good ECU alone could cost you $175-$250!

I would just make sure he is a registered DsmLink user, so he can transfer ownership to you so you can use the forums, etc.

Okay,

eprom ecu on ebay $200
DSMlink v3 (not an upgrade package) $595
Upgrade to v3 from v2 $175

Then sending the Eprom ecu to get socketed is roughly going to cost you a good $100.

so you do the math

200+595+100=$895

dude thats CHEAP take the deal that he gave you.

Besides you can download v3 software and use that to datalog and tune instead of the v3 but you wont get the benifits of v3.

Upgrade to v3 from v2 $175

THIS IS A SCREAMIN' DEAL!!!

This is the main thing to keep in mind! It's a VERY cheap up grade for you to go to V3!! AND you can get the MAF-cable for just $75 more.

Buying the cable is "like" having a MAF-T, you just don't need the translator box anymore. All you'll need is the cable and a 3" GM MAF and you'll be able to utilize a blow-through set up. The "translation" is taken care of through Link.

So, the TOTAL amount you will have spent if you buy this AND go for the uprgade right away is $650. The only extra expense that I can think of for this set up would be an ebay laptop that has the minimum requirements to tune your Link with (so YOU can tune your car anytime you deem it neccessary), and then you're golden! :thumb:

Also, since the guy is offering to help you with a baseline tune, that's cool, just follow your gut on whether you think he knows his stuff or not.

Other than that, can I ask you what the hell you are waiting for?!?! :)

DSMlink v2 is already great to tune and log with. I would say learn how to use v2 before considering jumping into ECMlink. ECMlink may have more features and options but will you use them? To answer that question I would suggest learn how to tune using DSMlink and decide what your goals are for your car. Most likely DSMlink v2 is more than you need for a way to tune/log your car. $400 for the Eprom ECU, DSMlink v2 chip/software, install, and base tune is a great deal! Buy it before the seller changes his mind or sells it to someone else.

Buy it. If i had that deal in front of me I would do it in a heartbeat, your getting help to tune it also(hopefully he has experience in doing it). Look around some more, but the chance you will find a better deal is not likely.

Screw V3 and link in general, waste money when you can get something free and BETTER (jackal)? I guess thats up to you. If I were you I would buy it then sell it to some "link is the best in the world person" for more, then buy the parts for ds-map/jackal. Win win :p

I hear the sliders are amazing though and the whole turning the car off to make changes is even cooler.

I'm not a Link user myself and run speed density with a custom chip(dsmap v1), but this is a pretty good deal since it comes with the ecu, already socketed as well. Link is very simple to use and has plenty of support given he buys it from a resgistered owner.

But this isn't a "which tuning device is best" thread. He's just asking if this is a good deal on this particular setup.

But personally, I would keep the socketed ecu, sell the Dsmlink chip and rights for $400:sneaky: , buy an Ostrich,IAT, MAP, harness and run the Jackal :thumb:

the question here is do you have an eprom ecu already? If so this isnt worth it. For about 250 (175 for ostrich and about 75 for the wiring harness, map sensor, and iat sensor) you could convert to speed density which is way easier to tune with, a lot loss restrictive because there isnt any maf there to restrict, plus you get to vent your bov without any problems. I have a local dsmer that has v2 and its not a terrible tuning solution by any means but jackal which is free (ds-map.net) is wayyy easier and more precise to tune with.

I hear the sliders are amazing though and the whole turning the car off to make changes is even cooler.
The "sliders" you guys are fond of jumping on are "amazing" enough for an 8-second car or a daily driver. So there's plenty of flexibility built into the system. You're not going to be leaving any measurable power on the table using the V2 sliders. They've worked well for years for hundreds of people.

And as for turning the engine off to make changes, let's clarify that here. That's ONLY for direct access reflash updates in V3. It has nothing to do with the V2 package he's talking about or any of the (much larger collection) of ECU configuration tabs in V3, including the speed density table. All those are updated real-time, any-time.

To add to what most everyone else here has already said, yeah, it's a good deal. Upgrade to V3 and you're definitely set for whatever you want to do later.

As for transferring ownership, you just need to confirm that you have one of our memory boards (in the case of a 1G package) and you're set. There's really no need to get any information from the original owner. You just need to make sure he's selling what he's claiming to be selling, which is always true for third party purchases.

man what the hell happened to my posts?

to the guy who wants to know another solution for tuning, you need to hit up google and type "DSM speed density". you'll find other solution other than Link. i've heard good and bad things about link but it will be up to you on how you spend your money. this deal is a good one if you want to do link, if not just buy the ecu and the sensors for jackal.
Your posts were deleted (as will this one) for being off topic. Had the thread title been "which tuning device is best", then they would have stayed. But being that they had absolutely no relevance to the thread starter's questions, they were deleted.

And to everyone else. This isn't a "what are my tuning options" thread. This thread has a specific topic - stick to it or don't post.
