Strathroy,
It may seem like a dumb question but Iv had bad experiences with hood bolts so im gonna ask, I wanna wash my hood (as you can see below in the pics) but i wanna take off the hood and wash it that way instead of all the crud going to the engine so what bolts do i take off the tops one or bottom ones?

Ive done it hundreds of times and always take off the top ones. Its always fun putting it back on but doing his way looks easier. Im just dumb and never thought of taking the bracket bolts off.

Agreed^^^, I've never taken the bottom ones off, just to the 2/side that are screwed into the hood, but I guess it would work with removing the lower screws too.
I scribe a mark around the washer to aid in realignment of the hood.

If you take the bottom ones off you have to pull the black plastic piece off that is under you windsheild wipers (at least on a 2g you do). I'd get some one to help you and take the bolts that that screw into the hood out if you have to take the plastic piece off to get to the back bolts on the bottom of the hinge. The clips that hold the plastic piece on tend to break on older cars and you have to remove your windsheild wipers and the tend to be rusted and hard to get off too . Good luck

Moderators know best... My vote definitely goes with theirs.

While i was doing a motor swap, my friends and I took off the hood using the bolts attached to the hood. It's much easier without since access to them is right in front of you. Putting both bolts on one side first, without tightening too much then moving to the other side made it easy for me. Oh yea, this is not a one man job.

I know this may be late, but I hope this helps.

Eugene
