1G Walbro 255lph gss342 fuel pump work in 1G?

The pumps are all the same. The installation kit is different.

yeah i got the fuel pump but no installation kit but the pump is brand new so what do i need to get it to work can i just drop it in and plug it in. and yes i already know that i need an afpr and injectors to run a 255lph but will i have to order anything special for the fuel pump to work?

I personally wouldn't waste my time on a Megan AFPR. Just get an EVO one. Bolts right up and it's 1:1 rising rate. You can't adjust fuel pressure but you shouldn't ever need to. It will boost your pressure from 37 to 43 anyways.

Rising rate means that the increase in fuel pressure increases over time:p. A rising rate FPR goes from 1:1 to 1.5:1 to 2:1 to 3:1, to 5.5:1 to 9:1. Stock stays 1:1 no matter the boost.

Stock FPRs and aftermarket AFPRs are not typically rising rate.

So the stock evo FPR doesn't suffer from overrun like the stock DSM units???

This is news to me too.

More info please.

I'll gather up some info for everyone. But yes they are basically a revised 2g design. There are guys running 500hp+ with inline pump and E85 still using the stock regulator. Although it does help that they have a voltage regulator for the pump, these still work great. There are actually a lot of DSM's making 600+ on E85 on stock regulators. Overrun is sort of a myth.

so will my stock 1g fpr encounter overrun with a walbro 255lph or not? Im confused

No. It may have a mild issue when the pump first kicks on, but if you leave the key in the on position before cranking for a couple seconds it shouldn't be an issue. Overrun is something that was created as a reason for an upgrade. Which is why you really only see 1g cars and some 2g's that have the problem. It stems from a weak fuel pressure regulator. In almost all cases of "overrun", it could simply be fixed by replacing the regulator with a new one. Whether is be stock or aftermarket. The only real way to tell is to have a gauge mounted and check this. I have no problems with my 255lph and regulator setup. And I even have a fuel pressure gauge on the filter to monitor it.

Stock 2g. This also apply's for the fuel line. LOTS of DSM and EVO guys running inline or dual pump setups, flowing massive amounts of fuel through the stock steel lines on E85 which requires 25-30% more fuel with no issues. It is still something I never understood. The reasoning for upgraded lines.

As long as it is in good condition. If you start to get "overrun" symptoms, it is time to replace it with a new one. Or upgrade to a 2g or EVO one for the added benefit of the increase in pressure if you have something for tuning it. Check www.jnztuning.com They have all 3 available. 1g - $89.26 2g - $61.79 EVO - $69.42.

This is all new to me too and I am just relaying through a very reputable source. I think it is more common for the 1g guys because of the age of the diaphram and the fact that the 255HP is so much higher pressure than the stock one is causes them to fail. If you were to get a newer 2g one or an EVO one that was in good shape it would hold pressure just fine.

Matt how are you actually monitoring that it is overrunning? I assume you have a system mounted pressure gauge?

You can run a 1g depending on the condition of it. It may leak but that is just due to it being in poor condition. You can give it a try and if it has the symptoms, just replace it with a 2g or EVO one for 1/4th the price of an aftermarket one.

I'm all for something more affordable :thumb:

I'm monitoring it with a tee to a known good gauge at the fuel filter side of the fuel lines in the bay.

I must admit that my gas mileage wasn't TERRIBLE. But yes the gauge was bouncing (literally quivering) at 55-60psi at idle and on neutral throttle.

Have you replaced it with a new one or just more used one's. This could also just be a 1g problem. I have seen 2g's take a 255lph with a A1000 inline without an issue. What about during driving. Does it work better?

All were used. . . Worked fine with original pump so didn't bother wondering about them. . . Yes during load, where the %IDC goes up substatially from neutral freerevving, it functions normal. . .

. . . I really need to get a 2g fuel rail and fpr to test this out with my 1g setups. . . The 2g AWD cars had problems with the fuel tank syphon. This was remedied with the 2g cars you've seen run those high volume pumps, right?

That I will have to check on because I am not sure. That isn't even a problem I have heard of.
