Williams Lake,
I recently ordered a JDM transmission for my '91 AWD Tsi. Upon receiving it I noticed that the code on the bell housing does not match any of the listings that I've come across. Externally it looks exactly like a 1G AWD transmission with the exception of the shift linkage which is similar to a '90 linkage but slightly different. The code is W5M312VPXZ.

Is there any way to check the final drive ratio without taking the trans apart? Does anyone know what this trans might have been from?

On the lighter side of things. The JDM importer I bought the transmission from is sending me the proper W5M33 transmission I was supposed to get......and I get to keep this one:cool:

You could get a rough estimate of final drive by putting it in 4th, spinning teh input shaft one rotation and seeing how many rotations the axles make. Of course you'd have to stick at least some old CV pieces in there to probably see it good enough to do by yourself. Other than that i've enver heard those numbers before. HOpefully it's something trick you got your hands on :D
