i have a 99 gst and im installing a vrsf fmic whenever the j pipe comes in and i was wondering if i need to relocate or simply delete the charcoal canister in order to install the fmic?

thanks

Delete it and cap the lines. Then use dsmlink or something like it to make the computer not care that its missing. It'll save u a bunch of trouble.

You should definitely not cap the lines, they are there to relieve pressure/fumes from the gas tank.

Wait are you sure there is a charcoal canister that is going to get in the way????? Correct me if im wrong but don't 98-99 eclipses have the charcoal canister in a different location????

Cus when I installed my VRS FMIC there was no charcoal canister at all and it looked like if there never was one to begin with in the front driver location.

The 98/99 canister is behind the front bumper on the drivers side. On the 95/97, it's under the batter tray.

No its not. I installed a VRS FMIC myself and there was no charcoal canister up in front in the driver side and it never looked like if it there was one to begin with. So someone in here has gotten their info mixed up.

Almost all 98's and for sure all the 99's have the canister behind the front bumper. There's no need to be a douche about it, he's correct, and you're both probably right.

Either a) you have a very early 98 (most likely scenario), b) someone already removed it off your car, or c) you don't have a 98.

No one in here is being a douche so don't just be throwing it in to sound like if your the good guy ok. We are just trying to clear things up.

No mine is not a 97, Im pretty sure I know my cars/know how to read. noone has removed the charcoal canister cus I still pass my smog clean(unless I always get real lucky LOL)

And the manufacturing date is November of 97 just in case you wanted to know.

Believe what you'd like. It is a FACT, that in 98/99 they put them up front.
Do a little bit of research before you talk about something you know nothing about.

You obviously don't know what you're talking about if you think the charcoal canister helps you pass emissions. Stop arguing -- you're an idiot. Just because your car is one way doesn't mean you can give a definitive answer for every DSM.

call me what you want cus I simply don't care. If it makes you happy. Honestly I don't really care where anybodys charcoal canister is im just giving my own opinion. You need to grow up and stop calling people idiots specially online just cus you know that person can't come out thru the pc and give you a good smack right on the head mr. tough guy

LOL That was one of the greatest quotes I have ever heard.LOL I don't know why, but it just really struck me funny.

Come on though guys enough with the arguing. The point at this time is not where the canister should be, because it is in the front on the op's car and he wanted to know a little bit about what to do with it. And I think everyone has helped answer his questions.;)

To clear up the confusion:

95-97 FWD - charcoal canister under battery
98-99 FWD - charcoal canister in gas tank
95-97 AWD - charcoal canister under battery
98-99 AWD - charcoal canister in driver side of front bumper
