one of my belts was squeeking when i started my car so i sprayed all of my belts with wd-40 and now when i drive there is an extremely loud whine and my turbo isnt hitting hard at all could the belts be over spinning because of the wd-40 and if so could this cause my turbo not to hit so hard? any ideas?

Don't spray WD40 LOL
The noise you heard came from the belts being a bit loose. It tends to go away after a few seconds. What you should do is tight up your belts.
Also when did you do a Tbelt job? Could be that the belts may be worn too.. is recommend by the manual to do a Tbelt job every 60k miles.

I would venture that your belts are slipping so much that they aren't working the best. Probably not charging your alternator to full power and your car won't have as much power if it doesn't have the proper voltage for the ignition, and whatnot. Never spray anything on belts though. Even silicoln based spray's. They work for a while then increase wear. Just spending the 10 bucks and replace it. You wouldn't be overspinning you would be slipping. Also are you sure it's the belts and it's not your compressor wheel hitting your housing, check your turbo for shaftplay to see if it is going out. Any oil in the intake as well?

I used to have that same problem on my T25, put in a 14b and fixed it, no more whine

Putting another turbo won't help your problem. Tight your belts and let the WD40 burn out.
I remember when it rained hard and my belts would get wet they would whine for 5-10secs then would go away. Tight the belts and no more whine. Also look to if the belts are worned out

yea there is a lil oil on the inside of my intake snorkel but it has always been there and the whine is definitly coming from the side of the engine bay that the belts are on....what should i do should i just shift before boost and in order to try to make the wd40 wear off? i dont know what to do....

First off spraying wd-40 on your belts is one of the worst things you can to your belts. They work off of friction and if you add a lubricant to that mix then they will just slip worse than before.

I highly doubt that the belts slipping would be the cause of your turbo mo boosting, but they could result in your car not performing the same. Like it was stated earlier in this thread just tighten your belts and see what happens.

And run a boost leak test to see if you have a pre-turbo leak. Like somewhere on the exhaust manifold. Having a 1g they are known for cracking exhaust manifold's. This will cause poor spoolup and loss of power. Also check your timing belt. See if the marks are lined up. If you got ANY WD-40 on the timing belt it could have slipped and will wear down faster.

Just drive normal. Don't boost like crazy and let the WD40 burn off. Tight up the altenator belt and AC belt...all belts. Then if you are getting oil on your intake, get a catch can or catch filter to avoid excessive oil on your turbo.

Boost leak tests only test the intake tract, not the exhaust. if he wanted to find an exhaust leak the only thing i can think of is seafoam and watch for smoke.

the whine doesnt start until i hit 0 on my boost gauge and the harder i press on the throttle the louder it gets and the worse my motor feels.....my boost gauge still shows that im making boost but if i hit wide open throttle the motor jerks real hard...i dont know what the problem it is im hoping that the whine and driveabilty problems are due to the wd-40 on the belts but i have no idea...the car drives fine(but slow of course) as long as i shift before boost......

Chances are its your alternator bud, when your boosting its loosing power, tighten your belts and do a voltage test on your alternator...

notice your lights dimming?

I've went threw 2 alternators in 3 months so i know what whine your hearing..

Let me know what happens

my alternator is brand new less than 2000 miles on it just changed it last month and my datalogger shows im holding around 14v when im driving even when the motor starts to whine

so i just brought my car to the mechanics and had them replace all my belts and the one is still there and there car does not pull as hard under boost...let me remind you that the whine does not beging until my boost gauge reads 0 it never happens when the car is in vacuum....i dont know what it could be...DSM WISEMEN please help!!!!!

i would try to tighten the belts down and if it didnt work replace all of the belts.

i just said that i had all the belts replaced....but i checked my exhaust manifold and there is a 3/4" crack in it...could this be the problem? could the loud whine actually be a whistle caused by the compressed air being forced through the crack?

Well it sounds like your turbo is bad or going bad. If the whine is only occurring when you get into boost it is highly unlikely that your problem is in the belts. Actually I can say that I seriously doubt your belts slipping are the cause of your power loss because on Sat I threw my alternator belt off and didn't realize it until the temp gauge started rising. I was lucky that I had my Autometer gauges because I did not get a CEL or anyother light. Just my aftermarket voltmeter and water temp gauges to tell me I had a serious problem.

The crack can sounk kind of like a whine. I had a exhaust leak and it sounded like a supercharger whining. Replaced the gasket and no more supercharger!!. I would replace the manifold and see what happens. If nothig else you can have it welded for a temp fix, and to make sure thats it. Good luck.
