a few weeks ago I broke my VSS while putting my tranny on. basically the sensor/plastic busted off above the 10 mm bolt. the gear is still in the tranny and i just removed the bolt last night. is there a clip that holds hold it in or can i simply grab the gear and yank it out? it's kind of tough considering the rear mount gives me little room to work with.

Grab the gear and yank it out.

+1 but be careful. the top of the VSS is just a plastic connector so breaking it OUTSIDE the tranny you can just simply replace it. if you YANK the remaining part of the VSS and happen to break off the gear in the tranny your f'd.
JUST MAKE IT A CAREFUL YANK STRAIGHT UP

ok. so my speed sensor on my 97 rs was not working. i carefully pulled it out and noticed the little gear in the bottom of the sensor was missing. so i replaced it and it worked fine. the next day there was a snow storm and my car was covered in snow. i started it after clearing up all the snow and heard a somewhat loud noise inside the tranny. im assuming it could either be the gear from the speed sensor which is plastic and hopefully it its that it will just break and stop the noise or does anybody think it could be something worst? :ohdamn:
