Valve Spring Tool

Head on engine or off? If it's on then the tool from Snap On is the way to go. Compressed air into the cylinder and this tool will do it. It's a long process though. Off the head you can use a large c-clamp with a socket welded onto it that has been notched out so you can access the keepers. Be very careful of those keepers. A mistake here is biblical in disaster proportions Good Luck

Nice thing about our cars.......To get the valves out easy you need to make your own spring compressor as he said or it is going to take days

92 GSX-Thats the one I just bought today. I'm doing it now and I hope it turns out ok.

What a PITA this is. The problem I'm having is every time I compress the spring, the valve stem goes down with it. I am using the compressed air method. Any suggestions to help keeping the stem up?

your keepers are seized on the retainer. You need to break them loose. With the tool off the retainer, take a pair of needle nose plyers and try to spin the keepers in relation to the retainer. (make sure the spring is NOT compressed!!). that should break loose the keepers from the retainer.

I work for KE-Tool!! I own one of the KEEPER-EEZE Tools, and I can assure you that the tool works on our cars! I did some work to a 91 Talon AWD. Once the springs were accessible, it took me 20 min per cylinder to R&R a set of valve-stem seals and HKS valve-springs. I used 90 psi of compressed air, and the 31mm protective sleeve to protect and line up the spiring/retainer combo with the bore. :thumb:

GAME OVER!
I was on my last one and I dropped one of the keepers down the only hole I didn't stuff. I guess I will be pulling the motor out now. Any suggestions to my problem?

Thanks again guys.

i would try to put a flexable magnet down there to at least see if you can get it out.

p.s. did the thing i told you help at all?

gsx- I just kept compressing it until it broke free. I will try the magnet to see if that works.
Thanks for all your help.

Do you think if I just pulled the head I might be able to get the keeper?
If it fell in one of the oil return holes it is now on its way to the oil pan. Try the magnet, But if it dont work you haveto get it from underneath.

if it fell down one of the oil return holes, its prob sitting in your oil pan or somewhere along the way. pulling the head prob wont get you anywhere
