Valve cover question

Okay so I stumbled across something on my new valve cover that is different than my old one. I need to know what went there. My old valve cover had some sort of vacuum line going there and I cant figure out what used to go there so I can either hook it back up or delete it if its not needed. Thanks in advance!

It's just a breather hose, it went to your intake pipe. You can just put a piece of tubing in there with a little filter on the end.

It's part of your PCV system. You can either get a catch can system, put a littler filter from AutoZone or you can get hosing and reattach it to your intake pipe.

There is nothing wrong with doing what I stated. It's a simple easy fix to do if you need your car up and going and you are worried about trash getting in there. I ran my car for over a year with a filter on it.

With that being said I did not care for emissions and that's the only thing you should be worried about.

With that being said I did not care for emissions and that's the only thing you should be worried about.

1) if you have the PCV valve on the back side attached to your IM, you are allowing unmetered air into the valve cover and, subsequently, the intake, through that line (for MAF setups) and presents inconsistencies for SD as well.

2) a filter will clog with passing airborne oil vapours leading to #3. Until then, you are putting those vapours into the engine bay and may coat the area with an oily film.

3) It lessens your ability to effectively vent the crank case. A vacuum is better than atmosphere for relieving crank case pressure. Even an unbaffled eBay catch can is better than a filter, will catch more oil than the stock setup, and is a fairly cheap solution. Add proper, smart baffling to one and you have a low-cost fix for intake oil problems.

Unless you're running some other sort of high volume PCV system, restore that line to its proper function or run it into a sealed catch can with an intake vacuum source. Anachrome has the link.

Okay so I'm understanding that I need a line going from the valve cover to my intake pipe before the turbo with a catch can in the middle. Only problem now is that my intake pipe doesn't have a spot anywhere to put a vacuum line...

I agree with the catch can setup, and the p.c.v upgrade, you can ether drill and tap the vc and use sealer, or use
the stm tuned 6AN adapter [see link] http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/parts/stm_dsm_valve_cover_fitting.htm It just goes right in with sealer, or you could have someone custom weld on AN fittings to the vc, bear in mind sometimes when adding custom lines you need to trim the hood support for clearance on 1g dsms, depending on what hose fitting size you end up using etc.
