ok so i know the hose that goes off the valve cover is for pressure releif and some blow by goes threw it my question is does anyone have any ideas on what to put instead of buying a catch can and where does the hose go after it leaves the other side of the catch can or whatever i decide to make

I could be wrong, in which case I give everyone permission to ridicule me, but that hose typically goes into your intake snorkel. If you put a catch can or some other device in there, you could either have it just go to the atmosphere or back into your intake. I recommend letting it go back into your intake, because then the blowby gasses are recycled instead of just escaping like little convicts...or whatever else escapes and runs about wildly. The purpose of the catch can is basically to prevent a layer of oils and weirdness from coating the insides of your intake pipes and intercooler, where it will lessen its efficiency.

ok thanks man yea my intake pipe doesnt have the extra hole for the relief port so i sill re route it back to the intake any ideas on how to do a makeshift catch can vs buying one dont really wanna spend like 50 60 bucks if i dont have to

i've seen pop bottle on a dsm before..you could just use a plastic bottle (like mnt dew, pepsi, coke), get a tube that will go to cap of the bottle, make a hole in the cap and zip tie it to something near it..very very cheap..it works, catches all the shit that gets out..or you could get a small filter from advance or autozone, looks nice but gotta clean it everyonce a while..thts like 10 bucks i think..or just get an oil catch can from ebay..cheap too and looks nice..your car, your decision!

I use a clear lawnmower fuel filter. Good idea on the air compressor filters. What all did you use for it?

2 in-line air compresor filters, 2-1/4" npt fittings and 3/8" hose (vc to intake manifold) and 5/8" hose (vc to intake pipe).

I like your idea on the little catch can.

I once used a water bottle on a 240sx i had, even made little brackets for it. Shame oil eats thru that plastic :p

What are the pros and cons of venting it to the atmosphere opposed to routing it back through the intake system?

If you vent (say using a small breather filter), you run the risk of having your passengers side of the engine bay coated in a thin film of oil.

Also, you lose air that has already been metered. Same concept if you vent your bov improperly.

OK thanks for the info. Im running a blow through setup with my gm maf but dont want my engine bay looking like trash with oil all over it. Ill be running it back through my intake. Is it wise to put an inline filter on the line from the can to intake to have extra precaution on oil getting into my intercooler and pipes?

It will not hurt anything, but probably unnecessary.
