V6 into DSMs [merged 12-17-06]

The short answer: Yes, its possible. There is someone on this board with a 6g72 in their 1g, so I can only assume it would fit in a 2g as well (I'm pretty sure its the same guy with the twin charged 1g). The longer answer: How much do you like to weld? Engine swaps really arent as hard as most people make them out to be...as long as you are comfortable fabricating parts that is. My advice would be to get some specs on the engine to assess how hard it would be to fit in the engine bay, talk to the guy who has already done it, and make a decision from there. I'm pretty sure about 99% of the people on this board will tell you its a waste of time, but if you really want to do it, then just go for it.

The guy with the 6g72 has the TT DOHC version from a 3s, and IIRC he said he would never want to do the swap again. And yes he also has a twincharged 1g :thumb:

As everyone else has stated, swapping in a V6 is doable, but economically feasible, no. The best thing to do is to put a turbo on your 4 cylinder. Now the question is which 4 cylinder do you have: 420A DOHC non-turbo, 4G63 DOHC Turbo. The 420A is a good solid engine that can be built up to make more power via nitrous, cams/pistons/stroker combinations, turbo/supercharger kit, etc., all making more power than a V6. The 4G63T is the better of the two engines and its potential is limitless. With either engine, the power to expense ratio is FAR cheaper than swapping in a V6.

yea you could put anything in it. Hey throw a v8 in there.

but seriously it would cost you 15-20K. Turbos are usually the way to go with eclipses.:thumb:

Dude, I am trying to buy that MSD dis-2 off you but you don't accept PM's OR e-mails so.... How the hell am i suppose to contact you if I'm interested? WTF:confused: Shoot me a PM bro!

ok i have looked and i see alot of people dont think its posable so im going to try anyways i dont care that people say it wont work im going to try anyways you only live once!!!i can see it alredy im going to half to run a tubler front end i will kept posts up anbout it and get pics soon any feed back aboput what you think would be nice

i got a loan today for 40k so i want to do something kick ass to my car

Theres one thing wrong with that. Loan.

What happens when you get all this done and its a pretty cool car, but it blows up? Then youve got a blown up engine and a 40k loan to pay off.

We have enough problems in our cars already. I, personally, wouldn't complicate things with the VR4 engine. I have seen a reliability rating for both cars.
Talon got a 7/10
3000GT got a 3/10

Besides why spend all that money on swapping when you could build the same 320 hp into the Talon. It might even cost less. Let's see: FMIC, more fuel: injectors, pump, lines., DSMlink.

Here is the beauty of owning a Talon TSi. Many tuners out there are having to swap their engines: 240SX swap to SR20DET or the RB Nissan motors. Honda Civics do their little H22s or whatever. DSMs ALREADY HAVE A RACING ENGINE. If you're going to blow that loan on anything I'd say buy a Yamaha R6. Fast superbike.:talon:

PLease, please, please do not spend 40k on putting a vr4 engine in a dsm, go buy yourself an evo man. It would be way more worth it. You could still have 10-15k to mod it.

LOL at this thread. Gonna see a post in a couple of months. "Spent 40k on my car and it blew up" Or this kid is just joking.

This has to be one of the most stupid ideas I have ever heard

Do you not realize that you could spend maybe 1/3 of that amount (or less), and have a built 500-600 hp motor THAT FITS WITH NO EXTRA FABRICATION AND HEADACHES?

But hey... if you wanna throw all that money and work at an unreliable 350 hp motor... more power to ya man.

(Great example of natural selection at work :D)

And BTW - You need to have your ass kicked for using that screen name LOL
