well, the dodge avenger does have the 2.5 v6 in high trim and it also comes with a 420A.If you look at the engine bay it seems as if it might fit.I don't know how much HP that engine has but it's a v-6.Just my .02 :dsm: :laser:

i agree. you could do anything u want to a car. now, do u wanna install the v6 eclipse engine on ur eclipse??? cuz i dont know how smart that would be, unless you go for the gts which has 210 hp NON TURBO, and then if u turbo it, u got a hell of a monster there.

:dsm: :dsm: :dsm:

A few have swapped the V6 out of the Avenger into our engine bays. The only downside to that is, no manual transmissions are available for the engine. And not nearly as much aftermarket support is there.

You'd basically be doing it to be different.

Seriously, the V6 would be differant, but you will NEVER get is as fast as a 420a will be. There isn't enough aftermarket stuff for the V6.

has anyone thought of swaping in the 3.0 6g72 into a n/t 2g?

I was looking at my friends 3g eclipse and it looks like it would work with little fabrications the side motor mount looks like it might be the same but not quite sure.

leave me some thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes read those search results and threads and reply in one of those of you have any further questions.

It would take some work and alot of junk yeard scavaging but you should be able to do it. The avenger is a basterd cousin of the eclipse/talon car so you should be able to find the parts to make it fit but you are going to need a computer from the avenger to run the beast.

what are some numbers on that engine??? my buddy has one its perty fast id think it would pull maybe a 16.5 quart stock anbody have numbers on it

I would not recomend putting the 2.5 in your car if for any reason you were going to go with the 3.0 from a galant or 3g eclipse or stratus it is the same engine all connectors are the same just higher displacement I have a Sebring as my everyday car and I swaped that engine for a 2002 eclipse when it came time to replace the water pump and timing belt it is a dicect swap.. so if you are going to take the time i would go with the 3.0 more horse power easier to find with lower miles.. Just a little input also if you want more information on how similar go to www.asog.net or www.aseclub.net they are both avenger sebring owners group

so is the 3g eclipse v6 a direct fit in/bolt on for the 2g n/t?once i saw a 3g powered 2g,but is it expensive(parts wise).if anyone has links on 3g engine swaps please post them.i want to replace the engine in my car but want to do something unique and inexpensive(v6 power).

Nope, the 3g motor wont be a direct fir into a 2g n/t....we can wish but its not happening.

Please don't think that I am trying to be an a$$ or anything but why would anyone want to put an avenger engine in an eclipse? Why not just swap in the 4g63t?

Don't dismiss my comment as some little guy who is all about Japanese parts, I pose this as a serious question. Here is my reasoning.

.5 displacement is not going to make up for a turbocharger so then you have to try to turbocharge this specifally NA car. So now you have to buy new pistons and rods and the myriad of other expensive parts that go along with this. At this point you have surpassed the price of an avenger or more importantly the price of a 4g63 swap as well.

As for putting a 3.0 v6 3g engine in, 3g v6 owners have a hard time fitting turbochargers/supercharges in there engine bay. Do some searching.

well i was browsing ebay and came across the listing for a v6 avenger engine that looks very similar to the n/t(the intake and various things in the engine bay)and i thought if it was a direct fit i would buy it so i can have a v6 2g n/t ,that you dont see every day.i am not looking for something special i just want to see what my direct fit options are without spending to much on an engine and fabrication.i will probably end up dropping in the stock 420a.

Hey EPSYCHOBOB, if you are looking for a relatively easy swap (and wanna keep you car NA), get a 2.4 liter 420A engine out of a dodge caravan, plymouth voyager, or any other chysler vehicle that had one. A friend of mine did one in a weekend in his RS and the torque differance is very noticable.

2.0 420A

Horsepower: 140 hp
Max Horsepower: 6000 rpm
Torque: 130 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4800 rpm

2.4 420A
Horsepower: 150 hp
Max Horsepower: 5200 rpm
Torque: 167 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4000 rpm

yeah I know it is only 10 more hp and 37 in torque but it is an easy swap and the gains on the 2.4 are greater

there are guides on how to do the swap on 2gnt.com (search the forums)

hope this helps

I'm not sure if anyone has tried this or not, but will the V6 out of a dodge avenger swap into a N/A. The mounts and bay set up look to be the same. Just wondering if anyone has tried this.

As an avenger owner, it is not worth it at all. Using the avenger wiring you could even swap in a 3.0l engine from the newer eclipses. It still would be slow and the automatic transmission is crap.

This will only be possible with a great deal of weldign and fabrication. I spend a fair amount of time at Exile Racing (friends Shop) and we have measured out the avenger bays to be compared to the 2GNT for the same idea. The Avenger has a great deal more room in front.

The electronics as well would be difficult. The 4g72 v-6 is mitsu bred and uses a totally different type of management system. You would need to look into a standalone and complete aftermarket gauges ect.

The 4g72 will not work with our tranny so you would need to consider a Auto from an avenger. This alone will not fit in place of our a604 or NVT350. You better plan on a tube chassis up front. Best bet would be to move the mid to lower firewall back 4-6 inches as well.

The strength of the auto is not an issue since there are improvements made to the trans to make it accept the HP of the Exile Racign turbo kits. The cost is not cheap and it takes some time but it will make the auto stronger. Mix, you might want to consider it.

Short answer: NO it wont.

Terry

alot of people with avengers do front clip swaps off eclipses and they have v6's in some of them. as long as your staying all motor, i don't think it would be that hard. isn't the a604 casing for the 420a and 6g73 the same with just different internals?

i could have sworn i've seen this swap done a long time ago but i have no clue where

Thanks to Paul for unlocking this so that some actual tech can be added to the thread for future reference. Before continuing, let me just add that this is proof positive that, if you take the time to actually search (both here and 2GNT), you can find the answer to pretty much any question. That said...

There have been a couple of V6 swaps into 2GNTs. Threads back in late 2002 still have some pictures hosted of the completed installation. These swapped cars have even been seen on eBay and even RRE has had a hand in at least one attempt at a V6 DSM project (I believe they used a GST). They vowed to never attempt it again due to the results not benig worth the investment they made into fabrication, but I thought it was pertinent to let those people who might have read this thread and got to thinking about all the similarities between their 2GNT and an Avenger at least have a chance to go back down memory with those of us who were there and learn a few things.

The first thread dates back early December 2002, when a decent conversation about the subject came up. One thing to note, there are quite a few posts in this thread by members who have since been banned from 2GNT. They were not banned as a result of participation in this thread, but other hijinks elsewhere down the line.

There was an eBay auction for such a swapped car and it looked alright as I recall, but the auction has long since ended and any images are gone. I can't even link you to the thread, as it's in a private forum on 2GNT. So you know, there was no tech in that thread aside from one brief comment relating to battery clearance with the hood. Hood clearance issues stand to be the least of your worries if you are contemplating such a conversion.

Another thread discussed a V6-swapped 2GNT on eBay about a year later. Auction is long since gone, but there's some more reading here.

After that, the subject pretty much fades away on 2GNT. If you're interested in reading more about related subjects, search all of 2GNT for "V6" and start looking at threads on the last pages. You should get something like 12 pages of hits. I just went right to the last page and worked my way forward. Didn't take much effort at all.

Well, I hope that helped out a bit. Just wanted to clarify that it is possible, that it has been done more than a couple times, and that, just like a 4G63 swap, if you think you know more than the rest of us do and that this would be an easy thing to do, then put your money where your mouth is and do it. If you wouldn't know where to even begin, given two motors and two empty engine bays, then you owe it to yourself to let this pipe dream go and consider purchasing a turbo kit for your car while you gain valuable mechanical experience.

Thanks, again, Paul.

wow interesting read. There was some mention about considering a 3.5l from a galant, but it might be too tight for a 2g?

I guess this issued died out, and it was too much work, and hassle...

I have a 95 Avenger with the 2.5L v6 with auto and has others have said I do not think it would be worth it at all. It would be much easier to swap a built 4g63 turbo engine and probably cheaper than the 2.5L v6 swap.

What about a 4G63T in an Avenger?
And somewhere, there's a video of an Avenger with a Talon nose on it, fenders, hood and all.
I shit you not, sir. There is an Avenger rolling around out there with a 4G63 and AWD under the bonnet. Recent pictures from az2gnt.net.

I can't see them from work, but I have seen them at home and it's a 4G63 in an Avenger (2Gb DSM front clipped). I will add, for the record, that just because someone has managed to do something like this does not mean that everyone who has stated this to be foolish and "impossible" is wrong or does not know what they're talking about. The fact of the matter remains, if this is something you want to attempt, you need to just do it, as the rest of us are tired of reading generalized questions about how to do the swap or if it can be done. Anyone can tell you that it can be done, but the question is, do you have what it takes to make it happen and is it worth the time, energy, and money required to complete the project?

Should someone decide they actually want to attempt this retarded project, they would get better help if they posted questions like, "Here is a picture of the motor hanging in position in the bay. As you can see, the stock motor mount looks like it could *almost* reach, but I wonder if anyone has any ideas on how to build up a more solid mounting point at this location." Or perhaps, "Do you think the ECU will be okay if I mount it here in order to save time on wiring issues?" Ask us, "Can I swap a turbo engine into my car?" And you'll get a resounding "NO" everytime. Rightly so, I might add.

Here's an old thread from 2GNT with more pictures...
