using notebook instead of palm for logging

i was just wanting to know if anyone has tried using any of the datalogging software out there on a notebook instead of a palm. i hate the palm i have give me a headache looking at it and i would rather use something with a bigger screen. i have palm'n'stein which isint that great but will it work on a notebook?? i was also wondering if it was at all possible to use obd gauge as well on a notebook. another question too is.. i do not have serial on my notebook but i was going to use pc card to serial to fix that problem. has anyone else tried that yet?? and another thing if anyone has dsm link whats the deal with the cable?? does it contain a pcb or something?? they say thats the "key" to dsm link. anyone with answers please let me know. thanks.

yeah stein makes a program for windows/laptops.

I've used pcmcia to serial adapters before, only for linking mode but it would work with the setup. they also sell usb to serial adapters. both you can pick up cheap, and get the cable off ebay cheap enough, if you cant make your own.
