The day after i bought my gsx, i was pulling out of the driveway and it popped out of 1st gear and grinded and scared the living s*** out of me LOL but if i put it in second then go to first it will hold.. i was thinking and there is a couple of used transmissions that i could buy for about 300 bucks..

Should i just buy a used trans, or just use mine by putting it into second first, and save up and buy a shep trans? I plan on making alot of performance upgrades and making some decent power

Id save your money and get a shep tranny. Why pay extra if your gonna go big. It seems like you can tolerate shifting the way you do just to stay in first LOL

Ya its not bad at all, all you have to do is go down and then up in first and it holds and if i go shep i plan to go stage 2 i went for a ride in my friends with a stage 3 and the high rpm shifting seems like butter compared to stock it has to be so much easier to slam second

Save up. I had that problem were I had to shift into 2nd before I went to 1st. There notchy anyway so getting a used one might not be any better. Also I couldn't shift into 2nd above 5500rpms without grinding like hell. I got a jacks value 2.1 with a 4 spider diff. and now I can put it straight into 1st without any grinding, I can even put it into 1st at low rpms without grinding. And oh yea shifting from 1st to 2nd at 7200 for the 1st time without grinding was a blast and a relief. Look into Jacks also.

I was looking at sheps trans and the stage 2 just seems like a rebuilt transmission with a little bit stronger internals the jacks 2.1 seems like it is a little better is that true?

I have the value 2.1, and its great. Plus the center diff. is upgraded to a 4 spider which is best for streetability. You find that both are highly recommended around this site. Check my profile for pics of it before it went in.

If you are looking for 400+Hp then I recommend the shep stage-3 or better. I would get the 4-spider option, and not the welded center diff for a street car. I went with the stage-4 shep with evo 1st and 5th and I love it. With the taller evo 5th gears when I am crusing to work at 60mph i am not much over 2KRPM's! saves gas and is quiter on the highway (not that that matters much anyways :thumb:)

look at TRE, i have a bullet-proof stage 2. They shot-peen gears and double syncros and more. I freakin love this beast. I would go shep if its cheaper, but the shot peened gears are really nice. I definitely wouldn't get a used non-built tranny. Maybe u can find a good built but slightly used one. (thats what i did)

My friend thought he was buying a shep used once and it ended up just being painted and he got screwed so i would rather just buy a new one, i mean a stage 1 is only 950 without shipping thats not bad if i can get away with using that i mean im not going for a 600 hp monster LOL 400 whp is more than enough my a dd in my opinion

That's a worn 2nd gear syncro. You could have done it yourself for $150 and have the same thing. :)

I called shep today and they said it would be a 2 3 week build, and unless my actual gear isnt bad the price would be as stated on the site, and they recommended that i go stage 2 or better because they said if you plan on making power you should go 2 or better, and who can resist making more power? :thumb:
