Im just looking for numbers here since i know the topic of who is better has been beaten to death. Just curious to see how many of you guys have shep and how many have TRE. Thanks :talon:

Both places are really nice and both Jon and John are really cool. I've talked with both on seperate occasions and never had a problem with either. There are several people running amazing times on either transmission. Personlly I don't give two craps about how friendly or "professional" the shop is as long as the work is done right and they stand by it. I am looking for a good tranny shop, not a new best friend. Also one other thing to think about is people have bad days sometimes so they may not be as friendly as your used to when you call. I'm sure both these guys get TONS of calls every day and fact is you can't make everyone happy.

Jon at TRE must have like 25 bad days per month. LOL, J/J. I'm not looking for an argument, I was just sharing my experience. Thanks for sharing yours. :thumb:

Got a TRE trans, shifts great, no problem whatsoever. Except for the couple of "it'll ship out next week". Well it took 6wks instead of 2. :| I dont regret buying their more pricy tranny, having used the TRE tranny I'm not even sure I'd be satisfied with what I get from shep(That's how much I like the TRE's tranny). But my next rebuild will probably go to shep, no one seems to complain about their work/services and its even a lil cheaper. Might even consider the magnus puppy box, but I've heard zilch about those yet.

The dogbox/crashbox tranny is NOT a daily driver tranny. Unless your putting down over 600whp and race it all the time it's not for you. Definatly not your Sat night tranny.

Was my post focused on a dog box? no
Do I not know what dog engagement gears are used for? no
Do I need for someone to tell me what I need or not? no
Was my post a chance for those who post smarta$$ remarks every chance they get like $hit on flys? I sure did'nt think so, guess not.
Does anyone benefit from your/my post? no

Its my second post and it sucks posting this kinda stuff, but I had to shove it to ya.
So much for first impressions.
Good day.

Wow, you took that shit way too personal. If your going to be that sensitive on message boards then you may want to rethink your strategy. I was merely pointing out what the use for the dogbox was. Like you said, you didn't know so now you do. Trust me if I was being an ass you would know it. I'm not one for pithy nuances.

Whoops my bad :) Anywho, I was not trying to be a smart ass by any means. I've been around here a while and sometimes forget about how to word things, but by no means am I a "Tooner"

Why won't the poll let me vote for both?
Actually my Laser has a TRE trans that was later redone by myself. My Talon's trans was rebuilt by myself with certain critical component supplied by Shep.

UPDATE: I went with shep for the trans rebuild. Complete overhaul, welded diff stronger 3-4 gearset and shift rail and new intermediate shaft set me back $1700. He got the trans on a mon, called wed, and i had it at my door mon morn. Amazing. Highly reccommend usind Shep Racing. :talon:

That's good to hear. :thumb: Is it installed yet?

I went with DogboxRacing in Central New Jersey for my install. $825 for a basic rebuild. But I also put a new first gear in also.

dustyduff, how do you like the dog box racing trans? I was looking at them but can't seem to find too many people using them. Anyone putting down good power and using a dog box racing trans? Their prices seem really good and thats good for a cheapy like me.LOL.

When I called TRE about 45 days ago, the person I spoke with was very friendly. They took the time to dig through their shop just to find me a $40 synchro ring. As far as I know, it was the last of it's kind in the country, too. (Damn 3000GT/Stealth parts...)

TRE doesn't work on 3S tranny's anymore, but when they did, they came highly recommended by the likes of Jack Tertadian (a 3S GOD). :thumb:

So far, I haven't been able to drive the car yet. Just in and out of the driveway :p . I know the owners of DogBoxRacing, run 11 sec. 1/4 mile times (not sure how much power they're putting down). Knowledgeable, and extremely nice guys to deal with though. It's a small operation they run though, so if you want immediate response, call them.

actually, i was there when i got my trans back about 2-3 weeks ago and jon was telling me that they still work on the getrag trannys as well as the vw's and some toyotas. he also said that they started working on a couple evos.

i know its contradictory to what the tre website says, so you may want to ask just to make sure. maybe if they get a slow period they make exceptions?

Actually Alex of DogBox Racing ran a 10.6 or something close i believe w/out the bottle at the East Coast Shoot out in englishtown, NJ (not heresay i witnessed it). i havent heard anything but good stuff about them. and i plan on getting my trans done there once my clutch pedal assembly is done. ill tell you guys how it goes.
