My tranny just went out over the holiday weekend and now I am in the market for a new transmission. What I would like to hear is some feedback from people that have either of these transmissions and if you're happy with it, have had problems with it, etc. I am also looking to hear if you have had any problems with warranty repairs, was it a PITA to get it fixed under warranty? This is not to bash on either of these vendors, all I want to hear is constructive feedback so please keep that in mind. Thanks.

Well here's another one.

My TRE experience...

I bought their TRE-Spec AWD/FWD transmission and had them install a Quaife LSD and taller 5th. I did not send in a core since I wanted the AWD transmission and ended up buying a brand new transmission. From the time that I placed my order, it took a couple of months for the transmission to arrive at my house. When the initial order was placed, I was told that all parts were in stock. I later came to find that the Quaife was in fact not in stock which delayed my order for a good deal of time. Eventually my transmission was complete and went out, however, it was sent to the wrong address (I only found this out after calling multiple times asking for updates which eventually got Jon to go track down where my transmission had gone). My transmission eventually made it back to the shop where it just sat, and sat... It took more phone calls to get my completed (and paid for) transmission that was just sitting boxed up in the shop shipped out to me.

Upon install, I found that there was an exposed area of the bellhousing. Normally this would be covered by the transfer case which of course I don't have being FWD. Not a big deal, I had a plate created for me to cover the opening. It just would have been nice if this information was given to me before hand.

After install I honestly wasn't impressed. Maybe it's because I'm always hearing all these rave reviews on how everyones TRE transmission "shifts like butter." Mine didn't shift all that fantastic. In fact, I thought it was a bit more difficult to get into gear than my old worn transmission.

A couple thousand miles after installing the NEW transmission I have noticed a small leak. It is transmission fuid that is leaking. The only place that I can figure it could be leaking from is the input shaft seal. I'm not happy. My new transmission needs to come back out of the car and probably be opened up.

I don't have any experience with warranty work. That was my decision though. After the trouble I went through to get the transmission, I was not in the mood to send it back and deal with that all over again.
