Hi,

I went to a local midas today to ask about having them install my EGT probe in my Downpipe (my location of choice... not up for debate). They said they would have to cut away about 2 inch of the stock downpipe heatshield up where it meets the O2 sensor housing in order to drill and weld the bung for my EGT probe into my DP.

Will any extra heat reaching otehr parts in this area on my car be a problem?

Jonathan

If you cut a few inches, it won't hurt anything. But you can install the EGT further down where the heat shield ends.

If you look around on here you'll see there's a lot of people that don't have heat shields at all.

A majority of which post back with a new thread that starts with, "My alternator died, does this have anything to do with me not running my heat shields".

If you feel uncomfortable with it then you can always heat wrap your exhaust. My brother went through the same thing when he put in his FP3052 (no heat sheild) and burned up 2 alternators teh he heat wrapped it and he hasn't had to scence.

I've not had a alternator go bad, with the exception of the one I sprayed with oil (dip stick popper). And I say I punish my manifold pretty well.

However, you should have them mount the EGT probe on the number 1 cylinder runner. You can cut a small 1" hole and run the probe through the heat shield.

Have your cake and eat it too!!!

Like this guy. But I would make it about 2-3 inches from the head.

(On a side, note GAWD DANG, you're right NO ONE has a heat shield anymore.)
