My talon has a 3in cat back on it when i bought it. but right from the o2 sensor housing it has about 6in of the stock downpipe and then they welded in the 3in cat back. How much is this effecting performance?

I don't think having 2.5" for the first 6" of the downpipe will hurt. The exhaust is pretty hot at that point and will flow fine through 2.5". When the exhaust starts cooling down, is when you wanna open it up to 3". Somewhere along the first half of the downpipe is fine to open it to 3". Seems like you're there.

But it all depends on what you're running. Totally different if you're running 1200HP...;)

At the same time, I've always been a big fan of..."Go bigger, Go home!"

Looking at the mods in your profile I say it isn't effecting performance that much but the more free flowing the exhaust is the better.

Sorry I missed that it was only for the first 6in, thought the whole thing was stock. As stated though it probably isn't hurting much since you're still on the stock turbo, but even so I noticed a big difference again on the butt dyno when I added my 2.5 inch o2 housing to the 3in downpipe, seemed to broaden the torque curve.

But I would probably leave it as it is until I stepped up to a bigger turbo/more mods.
