When i bought my car the guy had a new exhaust on it already. But at the time i was still learning about dsms. So i never asked about the downpipe. Is there a way i can tell if the downpipe has been upgraded or if its still the stock downpipe. Is there any way i can do this without removing the downpipe? Thanks.

Also how difficult is it to replace the stock o2 housing with a e3 o2 and new downpipe. I have a good deal on both coming from the same guy. Im in the process of upgrading everything to max out my 14b before i upgrade turbos.

so i can measure around with a cloth tape? any sepecific place to measure? like i know it may change diameter in different spots.
thanks.

you should be able to tell just by looking at it. the stock downpipe will be an ugly thing with steel mesh (probably frayed a little), and an aftermarket will look more like the rest of the aftermarket exhaust...all pretty and stainless with no crappy steel mesh.

are you sure its got a 14b? 2g's come with a t25 stock...

yea its a 14b it had a 6bolt swap before i bought. Receipts and all plus i checked and Its got the 14b housing and all. And ive looked at the compressor wheels so i know its a 14b not a 16g.

Correct. Stock exhaust looks terrible. Give me a sec to find a picture I have on here of my stock one.

Edit: Couldn't find it. But yeah. You will be able to tell the difference as soon as you look at it.

awesome, i'm in the middle of putting a 16g on my 97 gst. oh, and as for the 02 housing question...its really easy.

remove you're o2 sensor, remove lower heatshield, remove 3 bolts and 1 nut holding o2 housing to turbo, unbolt your stock downpipe from aftermarket exhaust...do the reverse for the new parts to put them back on. shouldn't take more than hour depending on how stuck your o2 sensor and the rest of the bolts/nuts are...and thats jacking it up, taking your time, and two smoke/text message breaks. have fun!

thanks for the help. and thanks for the o2 and downpipe installation. Ill give myself an hour and a half because i smoke like a chimney when im working on my car. No clue why.

aight cool if anyone has a picture let me know but im pretty sure its stock the mesh is short in length and doesnt look in terrible condition but not great

And if you ever need to measure pipe, one of those tapes you describe is not what you'd use. You would have to use a caliper.

Hahhahaha turst me you can tell if its stock it will look like it went through a war and then fell in a puddle for 30 years then someone came and threw salt on it and the some one washed it of the someone left it out and it got rain on it the you threw it of the edge of a building! I hope that was a good subscription of what it looks like I hope that helps if you are seriuos about finding out I can take a pic for you.

The stock downpipe should be a dark ugly color rusted and heavy. the after market should be around the same size piping as the cat back and it should be stainless steel.
