I have been reading up on my new 99 Eclipse GST and have decided to do some upgrades, once I get that DANG power steering pump fixed, I'm not big into expensive performance parts but I want to get decent grade, not junk. I was thinking about trying to complete ALMOST the stage one kit.

ALL NEW

1. Injen Intake Pipe - 57$
I already ordered this.
2. NGR Type-S BOV - 140$
I've heard it will withstand more pressure then the Greddy Type-S and I like the sound.
3. AMK Turbo Manifold - 127$
I don't know anything about this brand. It seems to at least have a name. I figured I would purchase a new one since I'm replacing exhaust.
4. Turbo Down pipe & Turbo Elbow - 100$
No name brand. No clue.
5. SRS Catback Exhaust - 215$
I watched some Youtube videos on this and it seems to sound decent. Not sure if anyone else has ever heard them?
6. Mookeeh Boost Gauge - 20$
Doesn't look to bad. Seems to be non generic. 30 Boost.
7. OBX Boost Controller - 55$
Lifetime warranty. Name brand. Looks awesome.

And the one thing I had a question on. The inter cooler piping and inter cooler. Should I go with a front mount inter cooler or stay stock. What do I gain from it and how hard is it to install.

Also is there any other upgrades that would benefit me more without epically screwing my gas mileage because I do plan on using this car to commute 45 miles to college and 45 miles back. =(

If you can give me any information on any of this it would be much appreciated.

I would just spend 15 bucks on a boost controller... i am really happy with my NXS one i bought off ebay. There is a huge thread on here about it, its pretty legit and simple mbc.... i recommend it. Just message the ebay seller and tell him you are part of the dsm community and tell him you heard they would do a "special price of 15 shipped" Im pretty sure the offer is still valid.

ALL NEW

1. Injen Intake Pipe - 57$ If it's a real Injen, thats a good deal otherwise it's prob the ebay knock off right? You did get the recirculated one right?
I already ordered this.
2. NGR Type-S BOV - 140$
I've heard it will withstand more pressure then the Greddy Type-S and I like the sound. How much psi are you planning on running and you better be recirculating unless you have the MAFT or speed density
3. AMK Turbo Manifold - 127$
I don't know anything about this brand. It seems to at least have a name. I figured I would purchase a new one since I'm replacing exhaust. It'll prob. break on you if it's an Ebay manifold. Just stick with the 2g and port it or get a Evo 3 manifold
4. Turbo Down pipe & Turbo Elbow - 100$
No name brand. No clue. (Megan Racing makes good products and is affordable as well. I heard the ebay cat backs are fine for the most part.
5. SRS Catback Exhaust - 215$
I watched some Youtube videos on this and it seems to sound decent. Not sure if anyone else has ever heard them?
6. Mookeeh Boost Gauge - 20$ Glowshift, Defi or Autometer. WTF is Mookeeh???WTF
Doesn't look to bad. Seems to be non generic. 30 Boost.
7. OBX Boost Controller - 55$ I got a Joe P for just under that price. I don't know how OBX is with boost controllers but make sure it's not a bleeder type.
Lifetime warranty. Name brand. Looks awesome.

And the one thing I had a question on. The inter cooler piping and inter cooler. Should I go with a front mount inter cooler or stay stock. What do I gain from it and how hard is it to install. It all depends on your goals. Ultimatly the FMIC will be bette for cooling, but you if you go with too large of a core then you will loose air pressure and will have a lot of lag

Also is there any other upgrades that would benefit me more without epically screwing my gas mileage because I do plan on using this car to commute 45 miles to college and 45 miles back. =( You need to tune to restore your gas milage and the more power you make, the more gas you will burn. Have you ever conisdered that?

If you can give me any information on any of this it would be much appreciated.

Read above :coy:

Read above :coy:

1. It is real Injen, but this is the one part that is used.
2. Recirculated. Stock pressure ATM maybe more later.
3. Considering porting it now.
6. LOL Fine I'll go with something else.
7. Looking into NXS.

As far as the inter cooler. A small FMIC might work for my goal then. But still how hard are they to install. Anyone have a recommendation for a decent cheap small FMIC and piping to fit my 99 Eclipse GS-T.

What do you mean by tune. And from what I've heard most of my upgrades wont hurt my gas mileage. Some might even help.

If someone has input that is perfect.

Thanks. :D

Its intercooler one word, and alot can be said about the ssac intercooler setup off ebay. You can go to there website and purchase it for like 245ish if I can remember correctly. Installing is pretty striaght forward but some fab is nessisary. For the stock turbo though its not needed. Always keep in mind too that if you are going to upgrade keep in mind the future. If you plan down the road to make more power then buy accordingly.

I agree with liquid for the most part. Id go turbo back. Also, why spend 140 for a bov when a 1g cost 40 bucks used? If you dont plan on going big then you dont need a fmic but they are easy to install non the less. Before you go anywhere you have to plan on how far you are going to go. Saves money until you realize you want to go bigger again Oo.

If you truly believe you'll stop upgrading after those upgrades, then just upgrade the intercooler pipes. If you think there is a chance you'll someday upgrade the turbo, then look into a FMIC. I'm guessing if you do someday upgrade the turbo it will be to something not too extreme like a 16g, so I would recommend looking into the Punishment Racing kit or CXRacing kit off ebay. They are both the same kit and are under $400.

Is there a FMIC and piping kit that will fit my stock turbo now and a aftermarket turbo later /w a Greddy BOV Flange? What FMIC dimensions would be good?

Edit: Also what size piping 3 or 2.5

The PR kit is 2.5 piping which will be best unless you go with a much bigger turbo. You can order the standard kit or one to fit the stock t25, but I don't think it would be too hard to make it fit a new turbo, seeing as only one piece would be slightly different. I haven't done this myself yet so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Here's a link to it:
http://stores.punishment-racing.com/-strse-159/Talon-fdsh-Eclipse-2g-short-route/Detail.bok

They are a vendor on this site so any specific questions you could just direct to them through a PM.

Well i dont know about the punishment kit but the ssac kit had to be modified to fit the t25. It was quite simple to do if you have the imagination to do so. There are several threads to help you along the way FMIC wise. But the cheapest FMIC with best bang for the buck per say would have to be the ssac kit followed closely by the punishment kit. Seem to be the most popular amoung dsmers on a budget.
The ssac kit also comes flanged for the 1st gen bov another cheap solution and well worth it part.

Don't bother with the FMIC until you upgrade your turbo. There are 2 different setups, short route and long route. The SR uses a lot less piping and comes up next to the engine from the radiator while the LR uses the current piping route for the SMIC. If you buy "upper" or "lower" IC pipes, you are just replacing the stock piping with hard pipe and may or may not work with an upgraded IC unless it's the long route setup.

The stock sidemount is fine until you do upgrade the turbo and start to heat soak the sidemount. If you go too big of a core, as I stated earlier, you will have a large pressure drop and a large increase of lag. So, you can go too big of an intercooler. 2.5" piping is fine, I wouldn't go larger than that unless you are running a massive flowing turbo. The Greddy FMIC kit is a long route IC but does utilize the Greddy upper and lower IC pipes that cost $200ish.

Until you upgrade fuel parts, you should not run more than 15psi if you care about your engine. Also, running more than 15psi on the T25 (stock turbo) you are going outside of the efficency range and blowing nothing but hot air.

Keep your BOV recirculated or you will have issues running properly. Follow the upgrade path and you'll be fine. Don't jump ahead of yourself.

ebay intake(with recirc), comes with filter/adapter-$60
1g bov, adapter from ebay for 2g uicp-$20-$40, adapter is like $20
OR; new hard uicp(with greddy flange) and ebay greddy "type"(recirculated of course)(still holds more pressure than a 2g pos).- $ depends on the brand(i got mine from classifieds) ebay greddy knock-off bov is like $20
definately NXS ebay mbc, works great.-$15 great piece
factory mani if it aint broke....leave it the h3II alone! LOL
I got an ebay dp and cat back, looks great, but not installed yet, I think i had $300 in it total, another $55 for the tubular o2 dump elbow

After hearing all these opinions I have knocked the price down as well as got better parts, Hopefully :p

57$ Injen Intake Pipe
15$ NGX Boost Cotroller
74$ Megan Racing High Flow Cat
100$ Ebay Down Pipe & Turbo Elbow
215$ SRS Catback Exhaust
189$ Ebay Intercooler Pipe Kit /w BOV & Flange
(I might replace the BOV after testing it)
35$ Pillar /w Glowshift Vac & Air/Fuel Gauges
=
685$ Total

Are these upgrade efficient? Where will I have restrictions? Anymore comments?

Thanks again! :)

check if the downpipe deletes the cat, you might not need one unless you have tough emissions to pass.
if your just using the stock intercooler a whole piping kit would be a waste, you could just get an uicp that is one piece with a flange for whatever you want, and then get 2 90* pipes for the lower ic piping or someone may have a kit that comes with both upper and lower ic pipes.

How to I check it the downpipe deleted the cat?

Cheap kit, IDK if it will work or not, we'll see?

Edit: Links fixed

What year car do you have? it says 99 by your name.

89-94 ECLIPSE GSX AWD TURBO DOWNPIPE+ELBOW OUTLET PIPE

Thats the heading from the downpipe you linked. I dont think that'll work for your car. that is a good price for the dp and elbow though.
I got a 3"(2.75 at the o2) dp for $78.xx, and $55 for the o2. you'll have to search some more.
Be sure the system is for your year/model car, and make sure it says 3". message the seller and ask them if you need a cat or if it replaces it.

Oops, I've done so much searching these past few days, Must have picked up the wrong bookmark. It is a 99 GST. Will this be okay, Since the downpipe and elbow are welded together or is it better to go separate. Both are within 1$ of each other. I will be sure to ask them if it deletes the cat as soon as someone lets me know. Thanks for noticing my mistake.

95-99 Eclipse Talon Turbo Downpipe + O2 Elbow Housing : eBay Motors (item 170432586100 end time Jan-21-10 17:49:47 PST)

The stock sidemount intercooler can support a 16G for a couple of hard runs, you don't really need one yet until you go 16G or larger.

If you're running a couple of psi more, you'll be fine and you don't need to retune. Once you approach higher HP and boost levels then you will.
Please take into consideration that with a 3" turbo back you'll probably get boost creep and hit fuel cut.

Don't pick up that DP unless you can deal with unbolting it from the turbo while the turbo is still installed. Trust me, it's bad enough with just putting on the o2 housing let alone trying to do it with the downpipe. Just get a seperate o2 housing (megan racing) or stick with the stock one. That IC kit you posted isn't vehicle specific which seems like you'll be doing some cutting. As stated earlier, if you want to get a hard pipe kit for the current SMIC, get the Greddy pipe kit which will then be used with the Greddy IC. It's more expenisve overall, but it's your call. After upgrading the turbo, SSAC has a good FMIC. I run one personally.

Also, I wouldn't get a knockoff BOV as they aren't exactly the best quality of parts and tend to break/leak easier/faster or right out of the box.

It is only like 50$ more for the cheap FMIC and piping kit vs the stock IC piping kit. I figured I should go ahead and get it. I just can't do the 400$ for a good FMIC kit. The exhaust is 2.5. I'm kinda confused on the down pipe. What size inlet and outlet on the down pipe do I need to fit the turbo elbow and exhaust. As for the BOV I'm only going to use the cheap one until it leaks then invest in a Greddy Type-S or NGR Type-S. I like their sound. :)

Edit: I will get the separated DP since you suggested it.

As said already, the stock SMIC is sufficent for what you are doing now, so I wouldn't bother upgrading until later on when you know what your plans are. Again with the exhaust, it all depends on your plans. Some builds are good with 2.5 and others 3". Search is your best friend on this site and all of this is covered already.

Per the BOV, you just said until it leaks which I can almost guarentee it will within a month. You can't skimp on parts for you car unless you want problems. We are trying to help you out so heed our advice. If you are trying to go cheap, then you should learn to fabricate or get another vehicle. You WILL spend money on this car. There are parts where you NEED to put in top dollar names, mainly OEM. Wastegate, BOV and any critical component you don't want to cut corners on.

Then stock intercooler with BOV piping kit. Like this?

Like I said I plan on purchasing a good BOV. If I go with this kit I will have to.
Since you seem to be the only one responding to this thread you can PM me if you would like so I don't take up forum space.
Thanks.

The front mount inter cooler (fmic) would be a good upgrade. I have a '96 GSX and am looking at doing the same thing. From what I have read, it seems to cool much better than the factory side mount inter cooler which in the long run will extend the life of the turbo. You might also look into a Turbo Timer, to allow the turbo to spool down properly when you shut the engine off. this will allow you to program a set time that car will run after you shut off the ignition, thus again pro-longing the life of your turbo.
