Upgrade to a tsi talon

I have had a honda civic for about 5 months now. I am looking at getting something a bit more fun. I am thinking a 1992 eagle talon tsi awd. Theres one for sale for 3500. ". Fast as f*** and sounds unreal. 190 km on body 40k on rebuild 10k on clutch. Turboxs bov, maf translator, k/n filter and honey come/silencer delete. 440cc injectors ARP head studs. Lowered 2.5 inches, straightpipe with fartcan, boost guage and AFR guage that isn't hooked up. Aftermarket turbo manifold and downpipe. Aftermarket fpr, and has a fuel pressure gauge. Turbo spools good and sounds amazing and the bov sounds unreal haha .My use for the car would mostly be to and from school everyday, about 30km, and going out with friends. Would this be a good car for me? Wondering if it'll be pretty decent on gas and fairly easy to fix if anything goes wrong.

Also, what i should look for when i go to look at it. Its about a 2 hour drive so i want to know for sure if its going to be worth it.

What was all done on rebuild, has maintenance been followed since ... these are cars that are either abused or well treated. More often they are abused and can be a headache if they have been neglected. 30k a day may get a little expensive on gas if your always wanting to hear that BOV .... if you can drive decent they get alright gas mileage. A few questions to ask before commiting

1. What was all done on rebuild ?
2. Recent maintenance or any maintenance records ?
3.. Garaged or how much rust ... ( up there it can be real bad )
Also try to negotiate on the price a little ... seems a little high unless this a garage kept, maintained , adult owner weekend driven car.

If you have never owned a DSM before then you might want to look elsewhere. Modified cars tend to break down, and this car sounds pretty modded. Your description is a little vague, if the turbo is aftermarket then tell us what turbo is on it. Knowing what is exactly done will help us determine if something is blatantly wrong here. These cars are easy to mod and are easy to mod wrong, so it's crucial to be specific. Photos help as well.

Be aware that you are buying an older car that has been modified, it will break and it will cost money to repair. It's also important to read, a lot. This site has tons of tech articles and FAQ that will help you get familiar with the platform, so there is no excuse to be misinformed. Good luck.

I will find out about the rebuild. As far as i know it was owned most recently by a teenager and just recently traded to someone else, another teen. Also, thanks for the info on the price. It is cad but i have no idea how much its actually worth

I would say don't get one. if you are in school and you need reliable transportation then you don't want something unreliable that will break, without a doubt, and cost you money you don't have. Also, you can't trust cars being passed around by teenagers. It probably has a bunch of major problems they are trying to unload.

Thanks for your input. After reading this i dont think it would be a great idea as a reliable daily. If i get the money, would you say it would be a fun "weekend car" or something like that?

For sure. Now that I'm out of school and have a few bucks and a daily I bought me a 93 talon again. They are really fun cars but a lot of people treat them like crap and put on a bunch of cheap parts. You will definitely learn how to work on cars when you own one. If you can afford to, buy one as a weekend car/project; never as a daily. A $3500 talon had better be a nice car. Pay some local dsmer a few bucks to come with you and give his opinion.

If you can keep the Civic I'd get the Talon for a weekend warrior. Odds are the car hasn't been treated the best or the owner doesn't really know whats done to it seeing as how he's advertising 440cc injectors. If you know anyone who knows 4G63's or DSM's in specific I'd take them with you. I live in Alberta and there are a lot of bad DSM examples around, with terrible rust and lethargic engines with people asking way too much cash for what it is.

Yeah it's your usual rinky-dink upgrades. I wouldn't pay that much for it unless the engine and body were in great condition.

Indeed, as above. Overpriced it sounds. Need specific brands, models, work done.. not just an assortment of combo mods and ebay splurges to justify that price.

Is the bov recirculated? I expect not since it's a turboxs..

maf-t with a stock maf? the honeycomb and silencer removed? im confused..
