1996 Eagle Talon TSi upgrade help

I recently got my first car (1996 Eagle Talon TSi AWD) and i have about 1.2 grand to put into it, i was thinking of doing just basic upgrades such as coilovers and a new intake and s 3" downpipe. I am trying to get basic HP upgrades, but when I turn 18 I am taking it to a track to do lapping so i want good handling as well. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yeah I already got it completely maitenenced, only has 89,xxx miles

tenn-gsx is exactly right. A DSM is a high performance car and the first thing you need to know is high performance equals high maintenance. Here is a link to the proper upgrade path starting most importantly with proper DSM maintenance.
