Upgrade Parts?

Hey i have almost no idea on how to build the engine up and exactly what parts i need or decent brands. Basically i know i need either 272/272 or 280/280 cams. i want to get my horsepower up between 275-350. I know it's a long shot but if i knew exactly what parts and brands to get then i can install them myself and anything else needed. I only have little amount of tools so i can't remove the engine myself if i have to. any feedback is helpful. thanks

280s are overkill for that amount of hp. 272s or even a 264/272 combo would be ideal for such. Depending on the brand and type of cams you get valve spring and retainers will need to be upgraded. Gsc 272 will need upgrades but HKS 272 won't. 264 or 264/272 combos you can use stock valve train.

A cheap valve spring and retainer upgrade would be evo 8-9. Their springs are beehive style and are strong enough for up to 8.5k rpms.

14b(stock 1g turbo), big T28, or small 16g will work great for you. Get a good tubular header to go with. Dont use an ebay brand cheap header. The tubes on them are way undersized and they aren't made well.

Fuel upgrades you can keep stock injectors or get a set of evo 8-9 injectors. 550-560cc will be plenty. To use stock injectors at 350 hp you would need an afpr to increase fuel pressure. Upgrade your fuel pump to an evo pump or a wallbro 190lph.


Most importantly Buy ecm link for tuning. This will be one of your best investments to making your goal.

Last but not least do alot of researching and find a good suspension for your car. On road or on track suspension is important no matter what.

research every decision before making it. When building ALWAYS measure/check twice and build once. You dont want to measure once and build twice. If in doubt check and research again.

And you don't need cams to make as much power that you are looking to make. It is completely doable with a stock head and block.

I've heard that Delta Cams are a pretty good option as well. They're basically HKS regrinds if I'm not mistaken.

You can hit 300 hp with and a used 14b or 16g, SAFC2, 560cc injectors, Evo 9 BOV, Evo 9 fuel pump, and a boost controller.

All of that can be had for about $600.

Almost correct...Delta Cams offers several different grinds, both on reground stock cores and on new billets.

They offer (at least the following):

HKS (reground): 264, 272, 280
Brian Crower (reground): 272, 280 (probably more)
Kelford (new billet core): 272, 280 (probably more)

They can grind any profile you'd like, actually. Provided you have the specs or a cam card to give them.

But I do like my Delta Cams. I've had two sets of HKS 272 regrinds from them and have absolutely no complaints about them.

I agree with the member who stated that to make the hp numbers you want use the money for better bolt on upgrades that you can salvage if you blow up the block. DSM link or other mods, cams you need to go into the motor and do more harm then good. But for the record and to answer your question HKS are tested and proven for street and track builds. I have the HKS cams and DSMlink v3 550cc injectors 16g and all other nesessary mods dynoed 330hp at the wheels on 91 octane. Next step for me is big injectors and big turbo and head work. Start small and a good course of action would be to follow the hp chart read this site start here.
