Don't know if there has been a thread posted about this looked but time is limited so if it needs to be moved feel free to do so. I just discovered that i almost had a horrible thing happen under the hood and was lucky enough that my car didn't burn to the ground. It seems as though the insulation under the hood had deteriorated and the aluminum foil material seems to have come in contact with the battery. That's right instant short and melted the top of the battery next to the posts. I mean it looks like there was a fire but not enough to take off. I tore all the foil part off leaving only the fiber. Wouldn't be a bad idea for everyone to check their situation on this condition especially with top post batteries

You have an OEM under hood heat shield? My '99 it doesn't seem to have any metals in its shield. And it's a bit deteriorated...
