Unbelievable gain from an exhaust manifold change

Hey killercolt,
Looks like 94awdcoupe made some pretty nice #'s with that funky lil inake manny and of course the fp manifold. Look where he says he was sppolin and the horsepower to boot!:shhh:

Thoai is a respectable and knowleadgeable dsm'er worth listening to with a lot of experience. He didn't start this thread to start nut swining of others about who can spool the quickest or the most psi at whatever rpm with the biggest turbo.. He just posted this to show his results from his experience. Take it for what it is and leave it at that LOL At the end of the day it's not what someone else did with whatever setup, it's what YOU can do with what you have.:hmm:

His car is a 2.3l stroker. My friend car is a 2.1L (more like 2L in my opinion) long rod destroke. I don't think it is a fair comparison in term of spool time. Please notice that he did not say it hits full boost at 4100rpm. I looked up his dyno sheet and he said his car hits full boost at 4700rpm. That is about right with 35r on a 2.3l. With a 35r, you are likely to hit full boost by 4500-5200rpm depend on your engine size and setup. Also he is running a lot of boost too which help with spool up a bit. The y axis on 94awdcoupe is in MPH. I like to see where peak torque is because it is usually where it hits full boost.

Running a wastegate spring rated closer to the target boost can help to improve spool up too. It keeps the wastegate close longer and improve spool up down low. I thought my friend changed out the wastegate spring to messed with me but it still has the same blue tial spring when I checked it after the dyno session. I was not going to let him prove me wrong with some sneakiness. LOL.

Here is 94awdcoupe's Dyno sheet.

94awdcoupe said he increased the boost up top so the peak torque at 5500rpm might be the result of higher boost at 5500rpm. This will negate my assumption that he is hitting full boost at 5500rpm. If you looked at my friend Dyno sheet, you will see that his peak torque is at 5000rpm.

Yep I didn't catch the fact that 94 awd is running a 2.3l motor that certainly will help down low. Hmmm then it will be interesting to see Kels results with his 2.0l motor since he's going for a record. I hope to have my beast up by at least late May early June TS T4 mani Dual wastegate ,cyclone mani and all for comparison sake. Stay tuned:thumb:

I noticed something from 94awdcoupe Dyno sheet. I am not sure what is going on at 4100rpm but the power and torque are pretty low there since his log read 30psi. The butterflies were not opening up all the way or something.

I am waiting to see kelvin result myself. His result inspired me to use the cyclone intake. I will try to see if he will let me test the Honda intake on his car.

Killercolt, t would be interesting if your friend could find a TS turbine for his turbo. Even if it was a T3 it would probably reduce spool RPM and increase hp even more. Sounds like you guys are pretty happy with it though :D

I recommended the t4 twin scroll to him a bit back but he was not interested. I read on evolutionm.net that a twin scroll 35r spools as fast as a gt3075r. I believe he the twin scroll gt35r gets full boost by 3600rpm. I read this after selling my 35r and got the
Gtx3076r. :(.
