OK, Well I have posted this in the past and im back again. I have a ongoing knocking noise clanking and clanking. I have been going nuts and done a few things to try to diagnose this problem.

Heres what happens:

Im Stopped
I put the car in gear and release the clutch and start to move.
A faint knock is heard (clunck clunck clunck) (only when torque is on the driveline)
depress clutch, sound is gone.
go to 2nd gear and release clutch, clunck is heard faster.
depress clutch, clunck is gone.
release , clunck is cluncking in 3rd.
depress clutch clunck is gone and shift to 4th.
Clunck is now gone or im going to fast to hear it (road noise, exhaust ect.)

-----also----After a month of this cluncking noise this started----

Lets say im in 4th gear low RPM and I go full throttle, as boost builds up and I start to really move once I get to a high rpm there is a large "POP"

Only at high speeds.
(4th gear 2,000rpm= vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"POP"rrrrrrrrrrrrr"POP"rrrrrrmmmmmmm , shift to 5th vrrrrrrrrrr"pop" rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"pop"rrrrrrrrrr)

Sounds like it is coming from the front right area, but others who ride in the passenger side say it sounds like the rear and others say the front.

/\ hope that helped.

Things I have done to find problem.
Shaked front CVs
Shaked driveshaft
Didnt find exsessive play in either.

Just had buschur install a clutch & flywheel (act2600 & fidanaza alum fly)
I thought maybe it lied with in the clutch & flywheel but I was wrong.

I brought one of Buschurs guys for a ride yesterday but between my exhaust and pouring rain we could not hear much. But I didnt mention the "pop" because I thought the clutch fixed that, I found out it was still there on my 45 minute ride home.

Any thing you think could be a factor would be a GIANT help.

I think I may bring it back to Buschur to find and fix it. Those guys are very fast and great to deal with. And the fact that they know their shit like no one else sure does help.

This weekend Im going to check my U joints and anything else you think may be the cause.

Thanks guys.
Tom

I honestly have not a clue , Another member has this same problem, Im going to see if he will post here. Maybe between the two of us and some of you we can figure this out.:thumb:

Add me to this list too, LOL. My car has been doing this for like the past year, and only does it through first and second gear. I tried to figure out what the hell it was, but never could find anything. I figured id just leave it to see if the noise got worse or something would eventually break, but.. the noise hasnt changed at all and nothing has broken yet... *clueless* :) (I've had all the recalls done on my car also, so im pretty positive its not a cv joint issue)

I jacked my car up this weekend and had someone drive while I was underneath. Turns out my problem was my carrier bearings. All through 1st and 2nd gear the driveshaft was flopping up and down. The only problem is that the silicon fill that is supposed to fix the problem cant be done on 2G's. There is no hole on the top of the bearing to full with silicon caulk. Does anyone have any ideas on how fix the bearing without having to buy a new bearing? Its definately the bearing, I just dont know what to do now.

Any ideas how to fix carrier bearings on a 2G?

Well, with more and more folks with the same issue, someone is bound to find the solution :)

I doubt it. :D

Im gunna blow up my car if I dont find the problem, I cant even break the focking car.... Big launches with my new clutch and it just "slips & pops"..... POS...

i just go ta talon awd and it makes that sound when i shift, i think it could be somthing loose, it is definetly in the back, first diagnosis is mabey a loose heat shield but when i try to make a sharp corner i hear the poping sounds only around the corner and it feels like one of the wheeles is dragging, like the awd system is not turning all the wheeles im gonna put it up in a stand this weekend and run it and try to see if i can spor the prob, its not acv joint ive had several cars with tha tprob and its not the same kind of sound. it could be a problem wiht the hickis system i just got my talon 2 days ago 108000 miles for 2500. WE WILL FIND THIS PROBLEM

That's good news. Good luck getting it fixed.

ok, finally got around to filling the carrier bearings with silicon. This greatly reduced the thumping from underneath the car but it didnt completely get rid of it. I still havent filled the rear bearing but I will this weekend. Instead of a violent thumping there is now a hum between 3k and 4k in 2nd gear. Its not very noticeable but Its still very annoying. Hopefully filling the rear bearing will help this.

Does anyone know if the driveshaft can become unbalanced. It seems as though the carrier bearings are not the actual problem here. Instead it seems like the driveshaft is thumping because it is not balanced. Another possiblity is that the carrier bearing is no longer alligned correctly.

What do you guys think?

So, finally, my problem has worsened from clunking only on 1st and 2nd, to also clunks on 3rd. Exactly as reported by AW4G63.

I'm sure the next step is the popping sound on 4th gear ( which is exactly the next issue experienced by AW4G63 )

I dropped my tranny last weekend, and it is currently on its way to TRE :thumb:
I tried rotating the input shaft while on 1st/2nd gear with the tranny out, and cannot reproduce the clunking noise. Hopefully, Jon@TRE can tell me what's broken.

AW4G63: In about one week ( UPS said Monday next week ), we will finally discover what's going on with our tranny. Don't torch your car yet

Any word? My tranny is wasted , the pop isnt mechanical its fuel related, but is very violent and shakes everything. Thats being worked out.

I have no 1st and 2nd sincro....I know it. Im getting it rebuilt one day....one day.. let mek now your progress. Email me at [email protected] with your news, I cant view this page from work.

My tranny has been rebuilt, and it's being shipped back to me.
Took them half a day to disassemble and find out what's wrong, then one day to do the rebuild. Those plus 2 days of me and jon discussing about the mods.

That's a fast service! All the previous posts about TRE being slow must be from the time before Jon hired a helper ( Ming ) and before they move to their new shop.

I can't wait to get my car running again.

well I guess i'm not the only one with this problem. My problem is exactly what you guys described in this thread, except for one thing. When the rpm is falling back down to idle on neutral, it seems like the unknown noise/vibration happens loudest on the shifter, engine bay, sometimes pedals, and passenger panel.

so far we have ruled out bad mounts, unbalanced driveshaft, and ????
What else we can blame? Tranny????? Afterall, the tranny is the weakest link of all. Good luck.

Set,

Just to conclude on my experience.

My tranny is rebuilt, better than even a new tranny. The noise is fixed. Jon sent me back the broken parts, and the intermediate bearings looked pretty bad. The tranny lasted 170K miles before it went bad.

My experience with TRE was a good one. Excellent and very fast service. You can't beat two days tranny rebuild.

AW4G63 has also opened up his tranny and found similar bearings problem. Not sure what's his plan on rebuild.

I had that same sound, it ran fine except at higher rpms like 5500+ and one day I woke up and it was making at clunck noise It turns out that the timing was out like 130 degress and I was hitting the valves on the pistons, check your timing and see if it is off, it it is fix it quickly to save a hell of a lot of money
