"Ur" is not "you are".
There is a difference between "to" and "too".
When something is gotten rid of, it's not because you "loose" it. Something "loose" rattles. If you LOSE something, you can't find it.

And you don't want your brakes to break.

Yes, it matters here.

good luck trying to teach people in 5 minutes what they didn't learn in years of grade school. ROFL

Skool is fur loosers!

Very good topic though. I see the degradation of grammar and crap in stuff like Myspace and other horrible websites and it just makes me sad. I'll definitely be showing this to some non-Dsm'ers just because of its value in the overall scope of the internet. Its nice to see some people actually try to speak/type English instead of proving how cool (cause laziness makes you cool nowadays) they are by tYpInG lIkE tHiS or similar to above.

Grammar and spelling hugely affect the efficiency and availibility of good information. If you have a Master's in Suspension Dynamics and spell it "suspansion", no one will ever read your work and therefore any knowledge that could have been shared is now lost to all.
Not to mention it makes the search button useless for people typing keywords.

It's a website that tries (in the face of countless amounts of idiocy) to hold itself to a certain standard of professionalism.

If you don't agree with that, chill somewhere else.

its a website that has rules and people have to follow them. kinda like when you walk outside and have to follow the laws that were put in place. go visit the SA forums if you want to live in a society without rules. wait... even THEY have rules.

You must be logged in to view this image or video.

chill on that.

How about:

It is "a lot", not "alot"

3 is a number, not the letter between "d" and "f".

I wish other forums would do this. It is a major pain to have to sift through the slang and such. (Check out any of the cell phone forums... they are LOADED with it.)

Let's not forget:

"your" = possessive - you own.
"you're" = verb - you are.

"its" = possessive - it owns.
"it's" = verb - it is.

I'm glad that this sticky was made. It frustrates me when people use those stupid internet abbreviations, it makes them look stupid. There's even an integrated spell checker to help people out! There is no reason why everyone can't practice the use of proper grammar.

I searched this thread and didn't see it, but if it's here already, my apologies..

But Man! Can we please add to this thread the difference between the following two words?

popped: such as an intercooler pipe "popping" off for example

poped: not a real word.. closest scenario could possibly be if someone is "owned" by The Pope. "Dayum dawg! You got poped!"

We have all "chilled". Yes, this is a website. This website uses English, not slang. At least not in the Tech forums.

People, this is all we have to say on this subject - use complete sentences, proper grammar, and the Spell Check button. Especially when you're posting in the Tech forums. The Hangout is a little more lenient, but you should still adhere to this policy somewhat there as well. Using slang and webspeak causes problems with the search function and just makes the forum look like it's full of a bunch of lazy punks who don't have enough respect for themselves or our site to show that they have more than an elementary school education. It's one thing to try your best and screw up here and there, but it's quite another to spell things wrong on purpose just because you're lazy or want to look cool for using the latest slang. The Spell Check is there to help you get it right (and help us decipher your post). Please respect our wishes on this, as we don't want to ban people for such a trivial issue over being lazy.

Discussion is over.
