What is the color of tranny fluid, is any tranny fluid you can buy green? I have a leak and think its the coolant, but its coming kinda of buy the tranny. Just want to make sure.

I have a pipe thats connecting to my stock lower i/c pipe. It doesn't have an edge on it so its easy to pop off. The stock i/c pipe is kinda of a nylon. I was wondering if it will always pop off no matter what? I ordered some t-bolt clamps.

Tranny fluid will be yellowish-brown and smells really nasty; unless you have an automatic. If it's green, it's coolant.

Good, thats an easy fix, I couldnt have my tranny leaking, that would suck. How about the other question?

MT fluid looks like (is practically) regular oil. AT fluid is red and oily. Coolant can come in pink, but it's really watery. Green is generally always coolant, unless your car is powered by one of these

then it's just bleeding and you should stay far away from your car.

T-bolt clamps can get that sucker tight as crap on there, should be enough friction to hold it on. If it's not, you can go to an exhaust shop and have them run a weld bead around the edge to lock onto for $5. Something I do that others frown on is crimp the edge up with pliers a little bit. Three or four evenly spaced has been enough for me in the past. Free and fixed all my popping off problems. If you go too far with the crimp, it will be a pain to get the coupler on, and it can bite into the rubber a bit.

I would but already got the answer needed, so there really no need. Its pretty much a hard pipe without the lip. Its just straight, some pipes have lips to help keep the coupler from popping off.

I have a few more questions about this coolant leak, its being very wierd. The leak appears to be dripping from behind the transmissin, which leads me to believe it could be from the throttle body hoses. Are there any other hoses back in that area?

The leak is also not very consistent, which makes me think it might not be a leak.(I have no clue) It does not leak when I am driving as far as I know. I drove it to a parking lot a little over a mile away, let it sit there for a couple minutes. It never leaked. Drove it back to my place. Let it sit longer, by this time it was fully warmed up. Then all of a sudden it leaked a little bit, made like a puddle about 2 or 3 inches around then quit. Could it be a puddle of leftover coolant from the swap, im not counting on that at all, just a possibility. It gets down to like zero here, I know its coolant, but maybe cause its on the outside it froze and now is warming back up and melting off looking like a leak. I know very unlikely, but just a thought. So any ideas?

If it doesn't do it until the car is warmed up, it might be leaking at the t-stat housing after the tstat, dripping onto the tranny, then running off the back of the tranny. I'd let it idle until it warms fully and see if warmed-up vs. cool is the difference between leaking vs. not leaking. And if you can get it to leak while it's just sitting there, you should be able to track it down.

Alright, ill let it cool down then try that. Its snowing out right now and were suppose to get like 6 inches though which sucks.

Im still having problems with that i/c hose though. I tightened it up, warmed it up, tightened up...etc. It still popped off at like 10psi. Think a t-bolt will do the job or is the nylon just not gonna stick to a pipe without a lip on it?

There are also some ghetto fixes to the IC pipe coupler. One is hair spray on the pipe. The other is a few dots of jb weld around the pipe very near the end that make "bumps". Then you put the hose clamp on past the bumps, and they give something to grab onto like the bead that most IC pipes come with. T-bolt clamps are just so damned expensive, but as long as you get the correct size, it will certainly hold onto things better than a worm gear hose clamp.

Thanks you have been very helpful. Im not exactly sure where the t-stat housing is though. Any pictures?

well, I let it fully warm up at idle, and nothing. No leaks. I dont see any wet spots anywhere from where it could be leaking. Not dripping onto the tranny or anything. I seriosly have no clue as to why it leaked and now it wont. The first time it did it, it was a bout a 7 or 8 inch puddle, then a 2 or 3 inch puddle, now nothing.

Well I took it for about a 15 minute drive after it was fully warmed up. It seemd to be leaking a little bit again. Not alot. I just can't find any leak spots/wet spots. Its dripping from the cross bar thing that goes under the tranny. Its kind of flat. It seems to be possibly dripping on top of that and then off of that. Cluess as to where it could be coming from.

Just an update. I think there might be a small crack in my coolant resevoir. I was under the car fixing my coupler. I looked up and saw a small line of coolant across the bottom of it. Not leaking just hanging there like liquids can do. Im thinking it might be spraying back onto the cross bar while im driving, making it look like thats where its coming from. Its a very small leak. We just got like a foot and a half of snow and its still snowing, so I cant really fix it now.

The reservoir comes out with no tools. Just slide it straight up and disconnect the hose. You could do that even with a foot of snow out.;)
