I had no idea. And here, I've always heard emissions and smog testers alike say how turbo cars screw up the environment (cause you know, fast must equal bad).....nice to know someone actually did the research...particularly when that someone is the CARB nazis, of all people.

Posting this here, because I'm still a newbie, as far as I know. Yay. Of course, if I wasn't, I'm sure I could logically figure out on my own that turbos = more air into engine = better use of fuel in engine = different emissions levels, but I'm not that smart yet.

I'm not sure what you are asking. The article you linked to gives you the approximate percentage reductions in emissions....

You can't just say that a turbo car will pollute less though, there are always conditions that must be met.

agreed. that's like saying the rotary engine is extremely efficient... well, it depends on what kind of fuel it's burning, the application, etc...

Goddamned "studies".

Gee, a five-liter engine coasting at 60 horsepower going down the highway at 70 versus a two-liter doing the same thing, but using a turbo to "fake" the displacement for the 4% of its running time that power's needed.

Who the hell ever managed to sell a study about the effing obvious.
