Good evening.

So I tried to to put my 3" turbo-back on this weekend and couldn't get it to fit right. Here's what I have:
95 GSX

-Megan Racing 3" catback
-Punishment Racing 3" downpipe
- Stainless steel no-brand vented o2 housing from ebay. (Don't laugh, I didn't know any better when I bought it forever ago.)

If I work from the turbo back: The length of everything seems fine, but the bolt holes on the flanges don't line up where the catback meets the downpipe; the angle it's about an inch off. (as in, it would fit if I cut the flange off the end of the downpipe, then turned it clockwise, and welded it back on.) Is this because of the ebay o2 housing angle causing the downpipe to twist?

If I work from the muffler to the front: one of the hangers is on the wrong side and the downpipe is angled way to the drivers side and hits on the oil filter. So it wouldn't matter what O2 housing I use, it wont fit right.

I know the parts are supposed to match up because PR sells it as a combo. So where am I going wrong? Maybe by looking at the pics you can tell if I have something on backwards/upsidedown or maybe they sent me a 90-94 catback on accident.

Any advice would be much appreciated, Thanks guys.

V- This pic is when I work from the turbo on back. See how the flange bolt holes are about an inch off.

I've had this issue as well. I'm positive it's the punishment dp. The angle is off like you said. And mine is a tad bit short. I either need to cut off the flange and weld on another 3 inches of pipe and turn the flange so it lines up. I had my cat back on with the cat and it bolted up perfectly. The down pipe is to blame.

Also eBay o2 housings are not half bad. Can't really go wrong with them.

1.Here's a pic of the o2 housing I'm using.

2. o2 housing vs stock

Yeah those o2 housings are nice. One of the only eBay things I would recommend buying.

As for your exhaust, go to an exhaust shop and they will do everything for you. Should only cost 40 or so bucks. Better then running just the downpipe like I did. It gets annoying.

What turbo are you running?

Small 16g, sir. Thanks for your help. I'm just making sure I'm not doing anything stupid that would require an easy fix. Or I might just have to take it somewhere... ugh.. you'd think it would match up, though??

3. If I work from back to front, here's the angle of the DP

4. Hanger on the wrong side of the bushing (you can't tell in the pic, but the bushing is on the other side of the pipe/hanger)

I've tried everything myself. I tried moving the hangers as back as possible so i had less of a gap. If I could get the bolts through the hole at all I know I could make them work. My angle is way off. Yours isn't as bad as mine. If you can get the bolts to go through both flanges you could tighten them down and I'm sure it would work. It would take some muscle and maybe some air tools.

Yes I concur. Why would you sell something that wouldn't fit? I havnt contacted punishment about the problem. I don't really know what they could even do for me. Although I probably should just so they know there may be a problem with the product.

I emailed them pics and a link to this thread. Punishment is probably my favorite DSM vendor. I'm sure they will figure it out and let me know what's up

will do, thanks bud. Off to bed.. I'm going to pick up a 92 GSX in 8 hours, I gotta get some sleep. pics coming tomo.. complete car, blown engine $500. score!

Anyone else out there have similar issues? Right now I'm waiting on Punishment to get back to me about their downpipe. Hopefully they'll reply on here tomorrow.

I agree, if anything, just take it to an exhaust shop to have them mate, it shouldn't be much. Even though they should work together as they advertise it together plus if you have to pay return shipping then it would not be worth it

It makes me laugh when I think about the fact that I have installed a 3" downpipe and 3" cat-back from Ebay (and different sellers at that) and had absolutely no fitment issues at all. The total cost for that exhaust system was around $250 including shipping. Exhaust systems are the one thing I would always recommend considering Ebay for. Even if you end up having some kind of fitment issues, paying an exhaust shop to fix them will still not bring you total spent anywhere near the cost of a name brand system.

Small 16g, sir.
While you're at it, post up some pics of your turbo....I'm curious of your wastegate actuator configuration because you're using what appears to be a modified T25 actuator.

I sent him a pm telling him whats up. Once you hear from him, you should let me know what he says. PM me, thanks man :)

Here's the latest email I got back from them:

"It's difficult to tell from the pictures exactly whats going on, have you tried adjusting the hangers to get everything lined up?"

I might be going to an exhaust shop because of the aforementioned return shipping.

I'll get some pics up tonight!! :thumb:

Same here, went with ebay using different vendors for the exhaust manifold, o2 elbow, 3' downpipe and catback. Had no issues with hangers or fitment. It doesn't even rub anywhere. Cops harrased me for the round canister muffler so I took it to my cousins shop, cut it off and had a 3" stainless muffler sanded down (to minimize the polish) and welded on. I haven't been stopped since and sounds great too!

So I took it to an exhaust shop today and they wouldn't even touch it because it didn't have a cat. =(

Now I'm going to have to try and get a hold of punishment again and see what's up. Everyone I talk to seems to think the punishment downpipe is what's throwing everything off...

Do you think it's possible they clocked the flange wrong when they welded it on?

Yes the flange on their downpipe is off. Like 3 weeks ago I finally connected my dp to my cat back after running just the downpipe for months. I just bought 2 3inch exhaust flanges, and 4 inches of 3 inch pipe. Mocked up the flange angles and barrowed my buddys welder.

Its so nice not running open downpipe.

Ohh and when I contacted punishment racing they never got back to me. It really sucks, this one little issue with their downpipe has caused me more headaches then it should have.

Did you ever fix this?

I've got the same set up but with a Megan down pipe and Evo 3 16G. The only way to get it to bolt together is with the reducer that allows you to run the DP with the stock catback.
I'd really like it to be 3" all the way through.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Yes, I have fixed this. I bought a two piece Megan downpipe that fits perfectly because it allows you to rotate the flange at whatever angle you need. The reason the Punishment dp didn't work is because the eBay o2 housing I'm using wasn't putting the dp in the stock location. Luckily, I found the Megan dp that solved the problem. :thumb:
