hello
i am thinking about getting a turboback and i was wondering do i have to buy anything? or would a local shop make everything i need and all i would have to do is provide a muffler? Also is the Thermal R&D exhaust cat-back or turboback? Just in case i decide to go with thermal.

thanks

yes you can do that however it would cost a little more because you are using thier materials and it takes longer. the guy who made my mid pipe charge me 180 but you can look around and get a quote and im sure you can find a better deal.
and on a side note most shops do press bends.

it's up to you really. a lot of people buy the pipes and bends themselves and have someone weld it up.

i hear great things about thermal, but it's just a catback.

if you want a good quality cheap turboback, get the dejonpowerhouse exhaust. there's a lot of threads on it now. i was one of the first to get it, and everyone else loves it. but it's loud.

anyway, it's not that cheap either way. unless you have the hook up for a welder and piping. just make sure it's all mandrel bent.

I have the Thermal R&D catback, but I swapped the Cat for a 3' test pipe and a 3' downpipe.

I couldn't ask for a better sound exhaust, or better performance!
Thermal is the way to go...

but if he's looking for a turboback, getting thermal AND a dp is going to be FREEKIN expensive.

you can get the same exhaust from dejon in a full turboback for less than 500. or make your own for ###### even cheaper than that. not everyone has the money for apexi or thermal. im sure they're great systems, but i can vouge for dejon. it's a great turboback.

if you want to do your own exhaust you could always get a tubing kit from VRS, all you need to put it on your car is a muffler and to have it welded up and most exhaust shops only charge like $10 a seem. they supply all the hangers and flanges you need. if you wanted a turboback you would have to get a downpipe cause i think the tubing kit is just a catback.

kteller.com has fully welded tubing kits for catbacks or turbobacks. all hangers are on and whatnot, or you can just buy the bends to weld it yourself (or have a shop weld).

all you have to supply is a muffler. and you're good to go.

press/crush bends are the worst setup for an exhaust. They are restrictive and dont do anything for performance.
Smooth cornered bends such as manderal bending are what you need. If you do a turbo-back exhaust (downpipe back) that will get a bit more pricy --but you will notice a great difference. A cat-back and high flow cat are still great but if you use a test pipe instead of a cat, you wont be able to pass emmissions if your state is a bi*** like that.
If so, like my state, then go DP-Highflow Cat-3" exhaust that will be the best outcome. good luck guys :thumb:

Not really if you get a full turbo-back you will have everything you need. Yes if you go to the muffler shop with the muffler choice you want and they can make the proper bends you need. But whatever you do get mandrel bent, not press bent. Thermal is a catback. If you aren't worry about money go thermal and get a 3 in DP; in my opinion the best sounding exhaust on the market.

Hopes this helps, Stay boostin

can i just buy a dejon downpipe and a muffler and have the shop do everything else?

thanks alot for the replies

I bought a magnaflow muffler and had a shop make me a mandrel bent cat-back cost was 225 out the door. Sounds awesome performes better. It makes an Apexi N-1 sound like it's on a Honda.

I've got a VRS turboback and although it's pricey, it's really a high quality product. All you do is bolt it up. Everything including the cat and/or test pipe are included. You might want to buy some new hangers if you see any cracks in the ones on the car, but aside from that you just mount the sections and bolt them together.

I would check the classified forums for a stainless steel exhaust. I got a custom 3" turbo back, mandarel bent, high flow cat, and a Magnaflow mufller for 300 picked up. Dont get much cheaper than that, it was nice too.:D

Or, check with your local performance shop and see if you can find out who does thier charge pipes/turbo exhausts for custom turbo kits and have them make you an exhaust, they do it all the time. Most likey it will be cheaper than purchasing one. Good luck

Im in the same shoes. I bought a megan downpipe and and obx muffler. I was wanting the exhaust shop to weld me up a catback. I have a 92 awd, and I heard that there are only a few bends? The shop only does crush bends, would this be ok since I dont have but a few bends?

Depends on what you mean by okay. Will you be missing out on power because you were too cheap to buy a mandrel bent setup? Yes. Will it work better than the stock set-up? Yes.

The choice is up to you really. If you want all the performance and none of the cost, just pull the downpipe off and voila. Due to some things I've been doing to my car, I removed the DP and just haven't put it back on yet. Loud as hell at WOT but reasonable at a cruise.

Would it be smart to buy the mandrel bends for them to weld into the cat-back? If so, what bends do I need to make a cat-back?
