4" turboback?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

If you look at the pic you can see that the turbo inlet is facing the front of the car. The reason for this setup is to fit a huge turbo thus the half radiator. And that turbo has a very large exhaust housing/wheel that is why 4" exhaust. Why would you want to reduce it? 4" exhaust probably is not needed but then again would you want to reduce it!

Shep may only run 3.5 but I'm going to run 4in. the Extreme car has like 4 or 5in. out the front bumper so what justifies. Like I said before, it cant be any different than running a 3in. open DP other than the fumes and sound go out the back. I cleaned my G-pa's big garage so I have a place to start laying it out and measuring clearances. Ill keep you guys posted on it.

The green Talon belongs to a friend of a friend here in town. I think he is a member here..

Umm.. The rad is definitely not a factory sidemount, the turbo is a Garrett GT42. And that's about all I know.

Jesus Christ, Shep only runs a 3.5 in.

Shep used to run a 3.5in exhaust. I believe he has something much bigger now and it exits out the side. Most people knew his exhaust was a restriction last year. Hell, ANY exhaust is a restriction on a turbo vehicle.

Hell why we are at it let's just fit my car with 6 inch smoke-stacks....... :sneaky:

Funny, I was just reading some guys thread on the Supra forums and when I seen his downpipe I remembered your post. :|

Thanks for the replies and pics still coming, Ive been busy the last few weeks but stubled on something new. I had started a new job and they don't have 401k and i got the paperwork from my old job thinking I had not much in there, come to find out I have 1500 coming back, so if anyone knows of a place that has gt40R cheap or a good buy on aem ems ill try to hop on it. any help greatly thanked.

I bought my Aem EMS from Horsepower Freaks, the price was pretty fair, Import Evolution has the lowest price I have found but I know nothing about them so thats why I bought from Horsepower Freaks. I would get the ems before the turbo, it'll give you a chance to learn how to use it. Here's some pics of a 4" on a 2g.

Horsepower Freaks AEM (they will beat any advertised price on the AEM Ems)

Sorry if I duplicate someone, I didn't read the entire thread. But the short-and-sweet of it is:

Yes, cooling the exhaust DOES make a difference. This is why header wrap helps. By insulating a header and keeping the exhaust gases hot, they move easier and with more velocity. If you run a 4" exhaust without the power to utilize it efficiently, the exhaust gases will cool off dramatically and efficiency will be lost.

It may not seem like a big deal, and the exhaust gases are moving at an extremely high rate, but just remember the header wrap example. It makes a difference in the nano-seconds the exhaust spends in the header, and it also makes a difference in the seconds the exhaust spends in the rest of the exhaust.

Exhaust gases slow down as they cool. As your entire exhaust slows down throughout the 4" portion of your exhaust system, the higher-speed exhaust exiting the engine will also slow down.

Local guy is running a 4" pipe on his Talon. If he is at the shop the next time I'm there, I'll grab some decent pictures.

The whole front end structure is missing, or nearly missing. OMG Maybe the bumper is in there somewhere.
Hope that isn't a daily driver. If he rear ends someone, bye bye everything. :notgood:
