ok i installed a turbo XS MBC and i have some problems. first i tuned it and got 14psi, then i opened my hood and heard air coming out???? its coming right where the allen wrench goes, i turned it counterclockwise and it stopped,??? then i drove and only hit 11psi?? stock i have 13, maybe a leak please help

if its leaking out the allen wrench hole, then someone made a boo boo

if it was leaking air right from the start then it is just a bad controller. But if u adjusted it imporperly and damaged something then i doubt u'll get ur money back unless u bought them from a good car parts store that actually accepts broken returned products. =\

The Turboxs boost controllers hiss at idle but its not from the allen wrench spot there is a bleeder valve under the two orings on it and that is most likely where you are getting the leak from but it is normal. But like you said if you 100% sure its comming out of the adjustment screw then i would say you either have it backed out to far or it could be defective. So just listen again and see if you can find where its leaking forsure.

wait yes thats EXACLY where its coming from the 2 black things around it, thats normal? and my pssssssst sound is gone? what would cause that

how can u adjust it impropley?

if u turn it too fast or too hard in one direction passed its max setting then u can damage something.

and natedaman i have a turboxs standard boos controller and it makes no noise at idle.

I do get the hissing sound at idle and i thought it was weird also so i talked to a tech with turboxs they said it was normal so thats what im going on. Mine works great. To adjust it just close it all the way then start to back out the screw about 1 1/2 turns take for a drive and then adjust from there.

this is probaly a stupid ques but do i adjust the MBC when car is on or off, i've been doing when car is off?

it doesnt make a difference, just turn it all the way down, run ur car to max boost in 1st gear on a long road where ppl dont whine and bi*** at u for driving at high rpms and shaking their houses with ur bov (yes i have experience with soccer moms chasing me home in their mini-vans for calibrating my mbc in my neighborhood) After u have it turned all the way down see what it holds at, then keep doing 1 full turn until u get it where u want it.

Rofl, thats so funny. The other day I notice that when I pass parked cars too closely on the street I can set off car alarms with my full 3'inch cat back =) I wonder whats going to happen when I start running without a cat (currently using a high flow cat). Hopefully I won't piss too many people off, I try to be quite as possible in my apartment complex parking lot. Sorry off topic =)

ok finally i got this figured out, i had to turn the MBC a lot where i saw the gold thing(screw) coming out, but whats weird is the instruction says 1 turn CC is 1psi for me it was like 10 turns 1psi but w/e i got where i wanted it 15psi, now my ques is why dont i hear the psssssssst out of my greddy type s anymore maybe i gotta tune the screw on the BOV??
thanks

ok if ur boosting 15 psi and u drop the throttle quick u will hear ur bov no matter what, my friend has a mbc turned to 15 with a 2g recirculated bov and i can hear that one pretty loud sometimes too.

If u cant hear it very loud it means its either recirculated and its meant to not be very loud, i'm not sure exactly how urs was made, but some are designed to be very quiet when recirculated, or its not even opening up period. If ur boost 15 psi and u back off the throttle does ur boost gauge go instantly to 0 and then to vacuum if u dont punch it again?

i have the recirualted type S it was fine till i put the MBC maybe its just me about ur ? yes if i get to 15psi and let off it goes past 0 and to about 20 vacumm

ok i kind of suck at trying to explain things but here we go.

im guessing you tapped the bov line for the boost controller. if so, that is why your bov isn't working right anymore. the turbo xs will vent off the boost to controll it so when the motor is making vaccumm the bov line its "venting" through the boost controller and you are loosing the pull on the bov between shifts. you could try to adjust the bov but i couldnt get mine to open even with the screw backed all the way out. it would open for a split second then close. it sounds kinda like pssht-fp-fp-fp-fp-fp-fp-fp. not nice. i had a turbo xs mbc and it did the exact same thing you are talking about, where i had to turn it a billion times to increase 1psi. i had it running off the lower intercooler pipe for the 16g install kit from RRE. i capped that off and tested it on the bov line and the bov stopped working, i couldnt make anymore boost, and it hissed like crazy through the o-rings. i then replaced the stock bov line and built my own boost controller home depot style and it works a thousand times better than the turbo xs.

I believe it's because the TurboXS is a bleeder-type MBC. You want a ball-and-spring type MBC. I used a bleeder-type for like 2 days until I realized they suck balls, and then I ordered my JoeP MBC :thumb:
