turbo whistle but no shaft play or smoke!

ok so yeah once i hit around 10 psi or more i get a whistle from my engine bay, i've done a boost leak test, pulled the intake and felt the shaft and there is no smoke. what could be the culpret. it sounds like its coming from right in front of the drivers console under the hood where the stock boost selenoids are, any ideas?

Are you sure it's the turbo and not a belt? Did you spray soapy water on all the vacuum hoses when you did the BLT? Look for cracks in the vacuum hoses.

Is it really sharp/high pitched or more of a woosh/dull sort of sound? Sounds strange but it makes a difference.

def not a belt. yeah i checked this things hoses over real good, the guy before me who had it jimmirigged so much shit, most are replaced now

high but not like super sharp, it pulses some times when my o2 dump opens

Not sure the best way to check if your BOV is holding boost, but it sounds like it could be leaking under boost.

yeah its the turboxs rfl recirc. i heard those leak from the diaphram outa the box

now the question is. how do i find out if thats what it is. doesnt do it unless its under a load you know

It would make sense that a normal BLT should show if it is a problem, but I am not sure on this. One time a shop checked my Tial with a vacuum deal, but it didn't quite make sense to me.

How much pressure were you using when you did your last BLT?

30, and im currently runnin 16-17

I think it's the natural characteristic from a compressor wheel spinning @ 10k RPMs.

last i knew when a turbo spools it wistles, but you prob have an exhuast leak and its small so its wistiling past the gasket, check your o2 housing my car does the same thing sometimes due to the o2 housing bolts backs off

yes i know what a turbo sounds like when i spools thanks. and i recently put an 02 dump on my car and it still does it.

haha yea, but mine does the same think just make sure all the bolts are tight for the o2 housing and if they aer make sure your gasket isnt blown, also check the welds in the dump they may be cracked

I had the same Problem with a 14b years ago. It would whine almost like a supercharger under load. turned out it had a barely bent fin that almost wasn't noticeable, turbo had no shaft play and didn't leak or smoke. In fact the turbo worked for years to come.

yeah thats what it sounds like. ima check that now, most likely the case
