I've used copper ones before. They work well. Copper is very maliable, so it conforms to both surfaces better.

Perhaps, but I blew out/melted a copper one last week after it being in the car for 6k miles. I think high EGTs are to blame but this time I am going stainless!

yea I dunno temps, engine vibration I dunno what is causing it. ticks me off.....!@!@

I had a copper gasket blow out on me as well when the turbo bolts backed off a little. Now I use a stainless steel one. My last re-build I started looking at the flattness of my exhaust manifold and turbo mating surfaces. I should have done this a long time ago, it makes a big difference. Take a 12" sanding block with some 40 grit and begin sanding the turbo side of the exhaust manifold surface. You will quickly see shiny spots forming indicating high spots. Keep sanding until all shiny spots are even. Do both surfaces on the exhaust manifold (head and turbo) until you have a uniform finish. Flatten the top mating surface of the turbo as well. It does not take very long to do each surface, maybe 5 minutes each surface if they are resonably flat. Obviously do not go sanding on your aluminum head. I used the copper gasket spray sealer after everything was done and cleaned up. You can use an EVOIII exhaust manifold gasket for added sealing to the head. It is 4 layer over the stock 2 layer. Make sure you have the proper hangers set up on your downpipe. There is a lot of mass being supported on the exhaust studs with out the proper down pipe support. If you have heli-coiled your exhaust manifold studs make sure the studs are resonably tight into the head not finger tight.
