For the last few days my turbo timer has been working intermittently. Occasionally it wouldn't add time like it's set to. Then today it's not reading the motor's RPM's and it's not timing at all. Is the unit done? I don't think the harness for the Ignition coupler would be bad because it still powers on ect. Or is it still possible that it is? Sadly to say part of the wire got pinched so I think that may have something to do with it. Not sure though, any input is appreciated.

Sorry about that, it's a BLITZ FATT DC IV I believe. I was wondering, could a dying alternator cause those problems with the turbo timer? Seeing as thats where they get the RPM signals from (at least from what I've read) If it's sending a weak/no signal would that make it not function? Since if it can't read RPM's it won't add time.

Double check your wiring--something could have gone loose. If you think the alternator is dying, check to see if the alternator is dying, thats more important than a turbo timer, especially if your running the stock 14b which is oil AND water cooled and arguably timing is not even necessary.

Already orded a new alternator. I was wondering though could that affect the turbo timer working? I have my priorities I figured alternator was more important :D

When the timer is plugged in and running, it makes me throw a CEL. Right now I have no way to check that seeing as I haven't made my logging cable yet. Any idea on why it would do this? It's still not showing rpm's on the timer I guess because the dying alternator. But what would cause it to throw a CEL? Doesn't do it when it's not hooked up.

greddy ones are crap, you have to unplug and replug them back in ALL the time.

Nope they aren't. If greddy is crap, the cheap no name ebay one I got for my beater would be absolutely atrocious.

Turbo timers are not complicated pieces of equipment. Like most electronics that require wiring, the install is where the problem comes from most of the time. Double check all wiring, make sure you have a good ground, and that YOUR particular timer is not broken to begin with. My other car is using the very first Greddy TT, it has been passed on through many cars, and to this date works as it should. Never used a wiring harness either, always been hard wired. Your problem lies with just your greddy turbo timer or install.

That is weird, I dont know how a TT could throw a CEL. Perhaps just coincidence? Try it a few times, unhook it and hook it up. If it only gives you a CEL when turbo timer is installed, apparently that rules out being a coincidence. Are you using a plug and play wiring harness to install your turbo timer. If not, maybe your hard wiring job is shorting a sensor or something that will throw a CEL if inactive. :shrugs: RPM feature should work if installed properly, make sure you are tapping into the correct RPM wire from the ECU. Only way to be sure, is to get a logger and pull that code when its on. I don't think an alternator could be the cause, but all my DSMs have been 2gs so I'm not to sure with 1gs.

Well an update finally. New alternator put in. Turbo timer works again, quite well. The CEL was due to a clogged fuel filter, stupid huh? Car's been great since the new alternator/fuel filter. I also changed my trans oil over to penzoil synchromesh, world of difference there no more stupid 3rd gear grind!
