Hello fellow DSMers, i own a 98 GS-T 6bolt swap and im having a problem with my turbo i just recently bought it used from the classifed section its a evoIII 16g, the problem im having is when i deccelerate it starts making a bell like sound. It actually sounds like someone is ringing a bell for a quick 5 seconds it never did this before.I recently put a refinished head on a few months ago, iv done it before soo it was an easy install. But this hasnt happend , it has been sitting in my driveway for a few months but i start it every now and then. no burning oil or anything like that soo im not too sure what the problem is. I also just put a stock 6bolt flywheel with a stage2 clutch on a 7bolt trans is that goin to work?
anyone has any suggestions on what it could be?

i just checked there is in and out shaft play none side to side... and this is a new sound it was running fine before the refinished head and the sounds isnt constant its only when i deccelerate or spool

ok i would rather get a new turbo im willing to send the extra cash for something thats gonna last.. i have stock internals with many mods. what im getting at is , would it be over kill if i got a TDO6 20g ? only reason being , i don't want to do any more modification this would just replace the 16g.Or is rebuild is better option ,i don't think im gonna get more then 380whp on with stock internals

There's no reason to run out and buy a new turbo if the one you have is rebuildable. It can be repaired at a fraction of the cost of a new one.

Honestly, I'd just rebuild what you have and wait to get the 20G unless you're absolutely ready to upgrade right now. You're going to be limited to about 22-23psi on the 20G with 650 injectors, so to really push a 20G into it's range of usefulness you're going to need more fuel. Along with more fuel comes the need for additional tuning, as your AFC is maxed out with the 650's you currently own.

See how the ball gets rolling so quickly? Before you know it you'll have $1800 spent on a new turbo, DSMLink, and bigger injectors.

yes i agree, i apreciate your adivce is there something that i should do to the turbo to improve it's performence while it's being rebuilt? Also, do you recomend any good shop to send the turbo too?

There are TD05H parts kits available featuring larger thrust collars for more support and thrust plates that have two oiling holes instead of one to improve lubrication to the thrust system. This is really the only reliability upgrade that is offered.

I can help you out with a rebuild if you're considering getting it done- PM me for pricing.
