Turbo or Head at fault? Oil leaking into IC pipes

Ok so last weekend my OEM timing belt went up on my 99 with a 6 bolt. The motor had 5-6K on it max. When I pulled it apart I noticed the intake runners were covered in a bit more oil then I expected in such a short time frame. This quickly posed some questons to me. I also when tearing it down noticed oil in my IC pipes (especially around the couplers).
The question is where my oil issue is coming from. I figure on of two places...the head or the turbo.
The head was rebuilt 5-6K ago so I expect it to be pretty set. The turbo was purchased online with "1000 miles on it" its an OEM EVO III 16G. The shaft is tight as expected and I see no oil with the intake pipe off or the J pipe off. (I know just because it has no play does not mean its not leaking out of the seals). The motor has perfect compression, no blow by nothing to make me think its the rings. The breather on the VC is NOT going to the intake pipe, only the PCV goes into the intake tract but clearly to the intake manifold. So I need to figure how the oils getting in the IC pipes, intake manifold and head... I cant help but think its the turbo although being soo new I want to rule this out. I can vouch that I did smell an oil burning scent from the car on occasion BUT NO smoke ever.
Any ideas other then tearing into the turbo? The machine shops going to check out/rebuild the head but how the hell would the head allow oil in the pipes?

Thanks

The oil on the couplers could very well be left over from when the Crank Vent was originally routed to the intake (did you ever clean these pieces and the Intercooler off?). The oily mess in the intake manifold is likely just a combination of normal crankcase gas remediation via the PCV and the EGR.

Mine looked like complete ass when I took mine off an had no oil consumption issues nad had cleaned it with MCCC 6-mos before, though still had the EGR and PCV connected :dsm:

The head, intake manifold and all the IC pipes were cleaned out or new when I put the motor in the car. The breather not connected to the intake pipe and the PCV wouldnt explain the oil before the intake manifold. hmm idk

Possible that excessive crankcase pressure is restricting oil flow back from the turb to the pan and/or too much oil pressure is reaching the turbo so that enough cannot drain away before overflowing the turbo seals (actually piston ringlike).

May want to check the oil pressure reachingthe turbo. Mitsu and Garrett BB CHRAs dont' need alot of oil pressure but Garrett non-BBs need ~40psi. If you rebuilt the engine with a BS eliminator and did not port the oil relief valve, you may be runnign too much pressure. Also, with any rebuild, there is risk of crap being fed to the Turbos oil galley and potentially blocking the return or feed.

You may not see alot of oil accumulation in/around the turbo inlet, but small amounts over time can resemble a larger problem (especially at low points and transitions of the intake) :dsm:
