I have a Frankenstein Stage 3 Turbo on my car now... It just started to smoke white smoke and only smokes everyonce in a while when i start up, rev up, and decelerate in gear... Im not really sure what it could be, any ideas? (BTW... ABSOLUTLY NO SHAFT PLAY, BUT LOOKS WET)... and secondly Would you replace the turbo with one i mentioned, wait and see if the smoke goes away, or just have it rebuilt ($300)... My budget is about a grand and if i sold my Frank3 i would have enough to buy the new FP Green... Get back to me with some opinions and thoughts... AND PLEASE NO "I HEARD..." ONLY 1st hand EXP... Thanks

absolutely bone stock... but if i got the fp green obviously i would upgrade to like 750s and 255 walbro.... the problem is i am new to this car and need to tune it if i get new injectors but dont have the slightest clue how

Wait, you run a Frank3 and your fuel is bone stock?
I'd make sure its your turbo smoking and not something else.

Not trying to freak you out, just throwing it out there.

From my experience, white smoke is coolant and blue/dark smoke is oil. Have you checked your oil for coolant?

I would suggest you upgrade your injectors. You can find a S-AFC on the classifieds for a decent price but that is only good up to around 650s. If you got something larger most people consider getting a 95 Eprom ECU which is capable of being chipped for larger injectors or programmed to use dsm link.

Honestly I do not think you have the supporting mods to be running that turbo or an fp green for that matter. Not to discourage you but I think you need to save up for a good fuel management system and down grade to a smaller turbo. Now you are most likely maxing out your injector cycle if your are still running stock injectors. I would downgrade to an e3 16g and get all supporting mods for it so you can use the full potential of the turbo.

I would say evoIII16g or t28, seeing as how you have a 2g the t28 would be easier (unless your current turbo setup changes anything that would prevent a t28 from bolting up). I agree with what everyone else said about fuel and the bigger turbos. I run a t28 and am happy with it, but it really comes down to what you want from your car in the future.

Thanks for all the feedback so far... its clear that i need bigger fuel injectors but this is a daily driver for me so i want to get the fastest car possible without sacraficing too much mpg... I want to get rid of my current turbo but now i just want an answer as to what turbo i should get?
Anyone that has a comparison between the BT28 and E316G... I have read the specs on horse power but i am wanting to know... stuff as far turbo lag (RPM's), & supporting mods necessary... Also if you have a 16g and have raced someone with a T28 what was the outcome and vice a versa?

I have never run a 16g, but I thought I'd tell you that in fifth gear my t28 spools up to 15psi by 2800 rpms. It also holds 15psi of boost through redline. The power does drop off slightly after 6500, but I think that this is mostly the stock cams and not the turbo.

I'm guessing by "Frank Stage 3" that you mean "Frank 3 20G". That turbo would consist of a 54-trim Garrett compressor wheel mated to a TD06 turbine.

If that's the case, are you aware that two of the turbos you've listed are much smaller in terms of potential than the turbo you currently have, and to swap to a FP Green (50-trim Garrett compressor mated to a TD06H turbine) would arguably be an even trade?

i am aware of this... but in my opinion the frank is not a very good street turbo, now that might just be due to my lack of fuel mods... but im not wanting a car that is gonna be pushing 500hp... I do not intend on taking it to the track, but i would appreciate beating some SRT4 ass... That is why im looking at a e16g, im hoping that will do the trick... there r tons rollin around my area and all of them think they r so damn tight...

I have come to my conclusion.... My stage 3 is now 4 sale.... Im going to buy an Evo 3 16g turbo and upgrade to a 255walbro, and 650 injectors... now my last question should i port the exhaust mani? and o2 housing (Any real benefits aside from preventing "boost creep")?

Most definitely. The Frank 3 20G (and FP Green, for that matter) won't even begin to make serious power until it's pushed well into the 20's of psi. On the stock fuel system, a turbo of this size would probably have to be run at 10psi to keep from detonating the engine. So at 10psi, the Frank 3 would be a turtle.

My buddy runs a Frank 5 20G (60-trim Garrett compressor, TD06H turbine) on his daily driven 2G, and it's honestly a very fun car to drive. The power isn't so responsive that you're on and off boost in traffic, and anytime you want to fly just downshift and the power's all there to redline. It doesn't hit like a 16G, but it makes up for it in the top end.

Are you going to be racing these SRT4's from a dig or a roll? From a dig, a 16G will let you win everytime....but if any of these cars have stuff done to them, you might be surprised what they'll do from a 20-25mph roll.

If it were me, I'd keep the Frank 3 and have it rebuilt, save the money you'd spend to DOWNgrade to a 16G and put it into other areas of the car to support the Frank 3. You won't be disappointed.

Everything will need to be ported if it isn't already. The manifold should be ported to match the 7cm2 inlet of the 16G (around 2-3/8" ID), and I believe the outlet I.D. of the Evo III turbine housing is 60mm, so your o2 housing will need to be ported to match or replaced with an Evo III o2 housing.

The evo3 16g is a great little turbo. I ran a 11.98@117 in my full weight fwd 2g. I am wanting to find a fp green this winter. It looks like for your goals a 16g would be plenty.

Alright everyone thanks a ton for the help... Im just going to pray that when i replace the turbo the smoke goes away and if not, well shit... and i would never race from a roll, that takes away the gsx advantage LOL (while hes spinnin im winnin)...
