Put my 95 talon on the dyno the other day and put down 235 hp and 267 torque. Mods are FP big T28, walboro 255, dsm link, K&N FIPK and intake pipe, greddy upper and lower ICP. Was running about 20psi and it would fall to about 14-15 at about 4500 rpm. I was impressed actually with the numbers. Now it is time for those 850 injectors and a 50 trim.

thats not right you shouldn't be loosing boost with a t28 you should check for boost leaks

I'd bet it's because he has a stock exhaust to the cat, and the turbine can't flow enough air. My FPB28 drops to 11psi by the time I get to 6k as compared to 15-16psi when boost hits. It drops steadily as the rpm increase. I have stock exhaust. I wonder what he'd see if he upgraded the rest of his exhaust to 2.5"/3".

Edit: eclipse_turbo97: Did you port the mani/turbo/O2 housing? That'd help with exhaust flow.

no I didn't port anything... actually one of my friends has just a downpipe and 02 housing with a stock catback and his isn't really holding either. It goes from 21 to about 18, but he also has a 50 trim turbo.

He has a 50trim and a stock exhaust.. You guys are working backwards normally you get exhaust and then increase air flow from turbo. Maybe you guys should look at the upgrade path for the dsm's.

I dyno'd 237awhp on my AGP T28 at only 14psi on a completely stock fuel system. I would think you would be making more horsepower at 20psi, but since you said that your boost drops, I would definetly check for leaks. Your torque is nice because of that initial spike of boost...but you should be able to hold boost on that turbo, so check for leaks. Im running straight wastegate (no mbc) on my AGP T28 for now since Im still on the stock fuel system. My boost pegs 10psi, then slowly ups to 14psi, hense why my torque was only 208.

Boost leak test, then re-dyno.

*EDIT*

Oh ya...getting exhaust MIGHT help too. ;)

An exhaust will help no doubt. But I don't think his boost drop-off is related to the stock exhaust. Wouldn't you think it'd be easier to keep up a certain boost level when blowing through a coffee straw compared to a water hose?

Well I did a boost leak test on my talon and found out I had two huge boost leaks on it. I was able to fix on but, not the other on since the guy that owned the car before me decided that he would drill two holes in the top of the intercooler. Now it goes from holding about 12 pounds to holding 17psi. I need to weld up those two hole on the intercooler and see what she does again on the dyno.

If im reading right your still running stock SMIC? If so i bet your heatsoaking that thing quick at 20psi. After i installed my Hahn SMIC i noticed much better flow, as such my boost creep is even worse now ROFL

that was the guy that started the topic he was just on my user name. Yes it does heat seak horribly. But a front mount is within a month, so are injectors, dsmlink, pte scm5031, tubular manifold, and ported o2.

You could throw a fan on it for the mean time when at the dyno, or did you allready try that. Also if you can weld the holes JB Weld may work for you. Get those leaks fixed and Im sure you'll be pleasently surprised next time your at the dyno.

i dont get why people feel they need to go bigger when they arent even close to maxxing out what they got :?

Damn you still have not exhaust on that car. Tell you the wife its essential. LOL

I'm thinking more and more about it. I was being picky wanting stock-looking twin tips and a non-rice sound with a high flow cat, but the Megan DP/cat elim/catback for $550 is looking tempting. And the problem is that I don't want me or my wife spending money right now, and I've kept her from spending by not buying a damned thing :p (okay, I did get revised lifters, new oil cap, VC gasket kit, and manualcd).

I just need to put $50/week away, eat Raman noodles every day for lunch, and save up for the exhaust.

Still pulling timing past 4k, though. Thought maybe the lifter tick was registering as knock, but revised lifters didn't affect timing. I'm going to do cold-air intake next and see if that helps.

I'd have to drop the boost with a new exhaust, as I lean out past 6k as it is, so flowing more air up top would make it worse. So I was actually considering 255 FP/AFPR as the next mod. And if that didn't help, new fuel filter. And if that didn't work, EPROM ECU+DSMlink. Atleast then I could tune on stock injectors, actually see knock count, increase base fuel pressure a bit, etc.

Wait a minute...I can't afford that either :D

To bring this back on topic, I'll keep my FP B28 until I max out performance.

trust me, some race gas or meth will have you smiling big with that turbo. what im saying is, youll be hard pressed to make a ton more power on the 50 trim than the fp t28, and youll realize that the upgrade to the 50 trim really isnt worth it. i mean you probably would make a little more power, but you cant beat the spoolup and low end power of the t28.
