Turbo Not "Whooshing" Right

The other day I was driving home from work and I noticed that my bov wasn't sounding right (didn't have a full air sound). Is it possible that I have a boost leak or something else? I checked the shaft play on the turbo and it's about 1mm (normal). So I'm pretty sure that I don't have a blown turbo. I also noticed that some white smoke was coming out of the tail pipe (not that much). Is it possible that I have fried rings?

fried rings would be blue smoke. Search on how to do a boost leak test. Burning coolant would produce white smoke, keep your eye on your coolant level.

What did the BOV sound like? Was it a quick flutter sound like it suttering? Check the vac line running from the intake manifold to the BOV. If it came off, then the BOV won't open, and you'll hear the fluttering sound (compressor surge)
