Turbo not boosting right

I bought a 91 TSi 2 days ago. After hitting about 8 pounds of boost the car starts jerking.
Mechanic is looking to clean my cat converter (clogged) and fix the wastegate.

Anyone know if this would fix it?

Most likely a boost leak, do a blt and check back with us.

I would do a boost leak test first before I paid a mechanic to fiddle with it. Then if that was good, I would move to checking out the wastgate, and its associated parts.

Turbo manifold gasket wouldnt do THAT much, yes it may hinder it but not to the extremes... hell i dont have one bolt in on my o2 housing and runs just fine...

True, I doubt its a exhast mani gasket, but the 02 housing and the turbo/exhaust mani is 2 different ball games. The 02 is getting rid of spent exhaust gases. the turbo/exhaust mani is where the magic happens. Exhaust gases pushes the turbo to spool, and any lost gases would reduce performance. I don't think that is his issue though.

that would ###### be a big boost leak if its jerking like he said however its possible if thats not the cause I would look into y our TB being dirty mine was doin that under higher boost i cleaned the TB and ran like new

How would having a dirty throttle body effect OpelTSi's boost at 8 lbs? Having a dirty throttle body will only effect initial acceleration and/or rough idling not 8 lbs of boost when the throttle body is pretty much well opened.

My guess is that too. Who knows what condition this 91' DSM was keep in with the previous own.

The dealer is getting this done for me for free.
I am new to the DSM models and even turbo.
I have driven a 1969 roadrunner and 93 since I was 15.
