Turbo choices

ok so i have been thinking for a while and while making up my "wish list" of car parts i stumbled upon a choice of 3 turbos.
Im looking at the hx40, hta68, and the evo3 big 16g

based on turbo spool, power potential, and difficulty of installation. rank these 3 up!

personal experiences would be greatly appreciated

Well looking at your profile im seeing that you have no fuel mods so I would say stock turbo is good for you. Do you have any fuel to go with the turbo or were you planning on adding some with the turbo install?

Power

2. 68 HTA
3. Evo3 16G

Spool
Evo3 and 68 HTA are both real close
HX40 is the slowest of the 3.

My overall pick for a fwd street car would be the 68 HTA.

Holy shit comparing the HX40 to the Evo III and 68HTA. WTF

You do realize you're comparing a 70 lb/min turbo to 40-42 and 45-47lb/min models which are direct bolt-on upgrades, correct?

Spool (quickest first):
1) Evo III 16G / 68HTA
2) HX40

Power / airflow potential (highest first):
1) HX40
2) 68HTA
3) Evo III 16G

Difficulty of installation (hardest first):
1) HX40
2) Evo III 16G / 68HTA

OK, SpawnedX, I understand that you know more about the dsm world than I do but I am just looking at putting together a parts list, yes I will be getting fuel mods and the rest of the stage 0/1 mods before I upgrade my turbo. But like I said. Its for a parts list (NOT) my next upgrade. Now for the sake of you thinking that I am just an ignorant rich guy that is looking to get the biggest turbo possible and blow up my car, Your advice is well known by anyone who has ever gotten on the forums. YOU may hate me for this but I am not ignorant nor am I looking to be a dumb ass and put a huge turbo on before I get the supporting mods. Now take this however you want but I was just looking for a simple answer like the ones provided ^ so if this is the advice that I get from a dsm wise man then I will take my business to other forums which would give me the answer that I look for rather than a smart ass remark such as what you have given me.

Enjoy your trip to wherever you go then. Every question you have asked could have been answered by searching for just a moment. Now please enlighten us as to how you know what turbo you want and need, when you don't have a goal in mind? No power levels, no supporting mods listed, no direction other than two related turbos and one out in left field.



You make a goals list first, then you start making a parts list and you don't start with a turbo, you start with knowing what you need to get to your desired power point, which then you know basically what your turbo will need to flow and then from there you will know what turbos to compare.



Not to mention all the other things like compressor size and hotside size to consider, but we can get to those later.

But hey, and no offense to Justin he is probably sick of responding to threads anyway, you can take the cookie cutter response he posted, because it is what you wanted, or you can listen to the cold hard truth, harsh whether you like it or not, of someone who made the same mistakes you did 7 years ago.

Hang on a minute- I don't see how what I posted was offensive in any way; I simply asked if you were aware that you were comparing two similar turbos to one completely different, off-the-wall choice. You skipped right over the HX35, which STILL would outflow the 16G and 68HTA by 10+ lb/min. I even ranked the three, just as you asked- it's not like I called you an asshat and kicked you in the balls here, buddy.

If you feel like moving on to another site, that's your prerogative- just keep in mind that there was no "business" done here as you did not pay for any services.

16gs are lame get a 50trim or an hx35. Why the hx 40 instead of hx35? I had a 16g for about 5 months and realized not enough top end for my likings. Plus it's not as cool to look at as a big turbo.
Also the 68hta in my opinion isn't worth the price when comparing it to the evo3. It's half the price and almost equal. Thats just my opinion though I'm sure other people feel different about it.

You didnt really say what you wanted to do with the car boss. Do you want a quick grocery getter, drag car, rally, autox? If you want balls to the wall then hx40 would be the first on your list. If you just want a fun street car then a 16g is good and its usually cheaper to get one then a hta because there everywhere and can be found used for around 300.

Like they said you cant compare a 16g to an HX40. They are on two totally different levels whether you have the fuel mods or not. So it just depends on the kind of power your wanting to make AFTER you finish your supporting mods list.

id spent money on supporting mods aswell before buying a turbo to look at it sit on a shelf untill you get the supporting mods you will need anyway
